It is not an easy hike. Roughly 1000 feet vertical. Lots of stairs. Some pretty sketchy areas. But oh my gosh it is so worth it! When you get to the top and are looking down on Machu Picchu, it is just breathtaking.
You have come a long way, and it has taken you a long time to get here. This view is as good as it gets!!!! Yes, you are going to have to CLIMB some stairs to get here, but what a reward! This was a bucket list target for us, and it merits that title--it is as special as it gets.
TOTAL SCAM. I booked through Viator and the tour operator name was: “ huaynapicchu”. Please make sure you do not use this operator. We booked 3 weeks ago for 2 days Machu Picchu trip. Paid in full and got the confirmation number from Viator as well. On the day of departure we were waiting for tour operator to pick us from the hotel in Cusco at 8am. We waited for 30 minutes and then reached out to Viator customer care. They gave me the operator’s direct number. I tried to call the tour operator multiple times but no response. Finally at 9am the tour operator responded on watsapp and said my trip has been cancelled. He said they didn’t receive the confirmation from Viator. Upon checking with Viator, that wasn’t true. They did send the details to operator. We were all prepared and excited for 2 days Machu Picchu trip and everything turned into disappointment. The biggest issue was getting Machu Picchu entrance tickets. They were booked in advance weeks ago and no other local tour operators were offering same day tours without entrance ticket. Luckily the hotel people helped a lot and gave all the info how to get entrance tickets directly from Machu Picchu office at base town. We took the train and stand in lines for hours to get the next day admission ticket. The point is do your own research and don’t rely this kind of scammers. I’m still fighting with Viator to get my refund!
I had a headache as it was so high but going to machu picchu was a great experience. It was pretty expensive and hard to go

HERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL POINTS BECAUSE TA IS REQUESTING IT. This is a genuine bucketist for every healthy traveler. However, the climb to the top is challenging, and it is far easier to take the paths instead of the steps. Make certain you bring your water in an eco container. The crowds can be big and timing is everything. If you get up to the site early in the morning, you get the sunrise to yourself without crowds. Dress in layers. Minimize the stuff you bring. Wear rubber sole shoes. Consider bringing a walking stick with a rubber tip. Pace yourself. Don't be afraid to ask outsiders to take a photo of your group--everyone up here seems to be happy just to be here! Stay on the designated paths. Don't deface the stones
