The natural scenery is fantastic and if you have a limited schedule then this trip is great. Cons were that they held the whole bus of 17 people to wait for someone to join. The operator should not have made 17 people wait who had gotten up at 3:30 for a 4:15 departure only to be sitting at the Cusco airport at 5:30 waiting for *1* person. Since we lost an hour in transit it meant we lost an hour at the site, which meant we had to rush and tour guide lost part of the group because directions were unclear. He tried, but it wasn’t good because group split up and it was stressful making sure way back was correct. Also, people pay different prices to go, so shop around.
Better to go on dry season because with the sun lakes would look better, I did it in rainy season, it was cloudy and rained a lot, no regrets though, still beautiful. Hike is pretty easy, despite the high altitude. There are hot springs, which were wonderful after the hike and all the rain. And in the evening clouds cleared away and we saw snowy mountain while chilling in hot springs and that was something else. Meals were not anything fancy, but for me it was okay, you get what you pay. Grab some snacks, you could say you doing trail on your own pace, you can go with a guide and ask him questions or you can go forward if you are faster, is it quite clear where is trail.
