Book this. Seriously. My terrific tour company - Peru Increíble - booked me for a San Pedro Market tour followed by a vegan cooking class, and it turned out to be the highlight of my time in Cusco. Chef Mauricio Martinez is the real deal. The man has a genuine gift for food, for teaching, and for making the whole thing fun without trying too hard. The market tour came first. If you've never stood in front of a single stall selling 100 varieties of potatoes, you haven't lived. We wandered through, learned what we were looking at, and I picked up a few things to take home. It's the kind of experience that actually teaches you something about Peruvian culture rather than just showing you something to photograph. Then into the cooking studio, which is warm, well-equipped and has a real kitchen-school feel to it. We started by making a Maracuyá Pisco Sour. I now understand why Pisco Sours are a national obsession, and I have a new favorite drink. From there, three different takes on vegan ceviche (all excellent), three more courses, and a sorbet made entirely from fresh fruit that was the best way to end a meal I can remember. I left better at cooking, completely full, happy, and only slightly tipsy. That's a perfect afternoon. If you're vegan or plant-based, you'll be well taken care of. If you're not, I’ve heard from others that the regular classes are equally excellent. Mauricio makes everything land.

Mauricio showed first around the market explaining produce and traditions with food and other items. Back to his well set out studio/ kitchen for preparation of Pisco sour. We then prepared ceviche in 3 different ways , potato soup, stuffed peppers with a potato cheese layer which was enjoyed at the set dining table. You didn’t need to have a vast cooking experience.He produced a selection of fruits for desert. Throughout there was clear explanation, help and humour and our group interacted well. The utensils and space was great and would thoroughly recommend. He promptly sent through photos and the recipes, though may be a challenge sourcing some in the UK!

This was a wonderful cooking class! We met at the San Pedro Market first then went to the studio to cook. The studio is bright and spacious with plenty of room. We started with a Pisco Sour (excellent) and moved on to several other traditional Peruvian dishes including 3 different types of ceviche, all were excellent. I highly recommend this cooking class while you are in Cusco.

Very fun experience - walked through the market, including the area where locals shop, and learned a great deal about foods of the region. Mauricio was a wonderful guide. Afterwards we headed to the studio and prepared a delicious feast (!). He was very accommodating for our group that included vegan and vegetarian members. Highly recommended!

Great experience with very good quality food and our chef was amazing. Had a great evening despite not doing that much of the actual preparation/cooking ourselves as lots already done. Also, there was only one free cocktail not two free ones as advertised. Overall would recommend as a unique experience.
