The tour was ideal to get to know Colony in no time!!

The tour was great, Marlene the guide super cool, we went to bullring while telling us about Cologne Marlene took a thousand photos gave us our time 👌 We went back and did the historical part on foot while telling us the history of the place, very nice and super recommended.

A trip back in time to Colonia, Uruguay

A journey in time, you move to a colonial city from the 1800s, you walk through its cobbled streets, beautiful views of the river, to photograph, a variety of restaurants and cafes, to taste. Go with comfortable shoes, a hat and water for the extensive walk.

wonderful

The place is wonderful, ideal to rest, the Uruguayans are very friendly and have a clean and orderly city, an example that we Argentines should follow. Much respect to pedestrians.

One Day Colonia Trip

We had not planned this trip before, so we purchased a last minute ferry ride to Colonia. This was not even a one day trip. We got a 12 noon ferry, which left 45 min late. We really had a maximum of 2 hours at Colonia, which we found was sufficient. Not much going on the day we were there - 25 Dec. Cute little place, lots of restaurants and touristy shops. Slower pace. The town is 10 minutes walk from the dock. Exit the dock and turn left and start walking. You cannot miss it. The city looks run down, but that is also because this is a UNESCO heritage site and new construction may not be allowed or is heavily regulated. Would I recommend this? It depends - if you are really into the history of this city, maybe, but it is similar in vibe like say Cartagena. The ferry ride was uneventful. We were lucky as Dec 25 is not a busy travel day. So we arrived only an hour or less before our ride. Tickets are checked, luggage is checked in, and then you go to immigration. The Argentine immigration will process you first, and then right next to them is the Uruguayan immigration who will stamp your passport to enter into Uruguay. When you arrive on the other side, you just walk out. Return was more problematic. The Uruguayan immigration was easy, but the line at the Argentine side when we exited the ferry took us almost the same amount of time as the entire ferry ride. Enjoy!

City delight!

It's an unmissable city! It's worth staying in the Old Town, which is the historic part. We stayed at Don Antonio Posada and had lunch at Qué Tupé! We did everything on foot there. In the evening we had dinner at the Chacra guesthouse. Very good! There is a little corner, on the edge of the sea, behind this inn, that is worth staying in, lying on the soft, fluffy grass, under the trees.
