I've done a fair few tours by this point but I'd never been to the outer Hebrides and was particularly keen to. This experience did not disappoint, the locations we went to were sublime and our driver Simon had a free and flexible approach that kept things interesting at all times. I'd been to Skye before but it felt like a completely new place this time. We were insanely lucky with the weather every day of the tour and temperatures got up into the mid twenties, I even got sunburn! I had no issues with my accommodation and thought the staff in all three B&Bs were friendly.
Just returned from our tour - it was amazing. Our driver/guide Jim Divine did an amazing job at logistics as well as sharing historical, relevant (and fun) content along the way. He is definitely a subject matter expert and his commentary was a big plus. We made the most of our tour every day - a great group of 16 from USA, Canada, Australia and the UK. The smaller coach bus made it intimate and easier to get everywhere compared to the large tour buses. Despite a lot of rain and overcast days the sun magically appeared when we needed it most. Rabbies is a great operator (I did the Outlander tour the weekend before!) and I will definitely book again! Only one cautionary comment - none of the hotels had lifts/elevators - I don't recall if there was an opportunity to request when booking so just be mindful if needed.
Bruce M (the Great), was an amazing driver/guide as he took our requests to heart. He took our small group to his hidden gems and gave us recommendations that were spot on. We were on the hunt for a Cullen skink and he found a perfect place for us to relive our culinary memory. Bruce M even made the effort to allow us to revisit places on the Isle of Skye. Bruce may not wear a kilt but he has the heart and soul of a true Scot and we are extremely happy to have spent time on his tour. Thank you Bruce. Rock on with your annual concert!
I had taken a Rabbie’s tour previously and was very satisfied, so I recommended the company to two others and booked again. Rabbie’s tours themselves remain well organized, and the drivers are knowledgeable and friendly. However, this time the accommodations arranged through them were disappointing and, in one case, unacceptable. One B&B room was extremely small, with a bathroom so cramped it was difficult to use, and the shower barely worked. Another B&B was clearly unsanitary, with a stained mattress, visible mold in the bathroom, and generally poor cleanliness. Breakfast there consisted only of cereal and toast while other guests were served cooked meals. Rabbie’s did respond courteously and issued refunds, which I appreciate. However, these properties should never have been included among Rabbie’s lodging partners. Travelers pay for a quality, vetted experience and should be able to trust that the accommodations meet reasonable standards of comfort and hygiene. Suggestions: Rabbie’s should more carefully review its B&B partners and provide travelers with a direct emergency contact number separate from the driver in case of problems. While I still believe Rabbie’s tours themselves are well run, the poor lodging on this trip diminished the overall experience and made me hesitant to book again.
Great driver, diverse and semi flexible itinerary. Buses are a little cramped and could have been given wider choices on accommodations and meal plans.
I recently did the 14 day island hopping tour. Overall it was good. The tour guides I had with Rabbie's were great. This was the first tour I had been on, and it was a bit fast paced for the kind of travel I like but we saw a lot and the tour guides were very knowledgeable. If you want to see a lot of Scotland very fast with someone who knows the area, this is the way to go. I had Michael, Keith, and Katty as tour guides and they were all great! I will say if I were to do this again I would book my own rooms. Some of the places I got booked into through Rabbie's were not great places. Either just not a great area in town, or really rundown places with 2 minutes of hot water and mold on the walls. IF you are going to let them book your accommodations I would recommend only the Bed and Breakfast option. Those were fine, small, but clean and good with wonderful hosts.
We took the Rabbies 6 day Outer Hebridies Tour. This has to rate as one of my most favourite holiday breaks of all time...made all the more enjoyable buy our fabulous tour driver / guide, Donald. His geographical & historical knowledge were second to none and he amused us every day with stories of history, of myths & legends as well as his own experiences. He took us to places we would never know existed if we were touring the area by car. The travelling between comfort stops was just right and the breaks were just long enough. I have used Rabbies tours before from Glasgow but this driver was a cut above the others. He accommodated everyone in adjusting the itinerary slightly to suit peoples requirements. There is no doubt about it, this man made this tour a very special experience. Booking with Rabbies was a pleasure and we asked for Rabbies to book our accommodation which was excellent. I cant recommend Rabiies Tours highly enough.
Stefan was an excellent tour guide. He was able to take us places big coach tours could not. Other travelers were a pleasure to meet and travel with.
The tour is excellent. I did it the last week of June 2024, weather cooperated, mostly. This driver/guide, Jim Devine, seems to have a bottomless wealth of information on just about anything along the way, which he dispenses extemporaneously. He's a most engaged guide, and if you want photographs, he's your guide. Ask him about his photo portfolio.
Our guide Sophie was sensational. She remained tuned into each individual and offered an exceptional experience. Story telling and overall attitude delightful. Incredibly knowledgeable and a wonderful representative of the country and this organisation.
