We booked a Yorkshire Dales tour with Barry for a special occasion - my sister’s 50th birthday - and our expectations were exceedingly surpassed from the moment Barry came to pick us up and we met Chauffers the cat in Grassington. From there we were delighted with All Creatures filming locations and historical insights at each stop. And Barry’s knowledge of the local trees and landscape is just superb. Ten out of ten- It was a day like no other and my entire extended family (all 8 of us) from 11 years old to over 50 just loved every minute. Thank you, sincerely.

What a wonderful day our family had with Richard, our knowledgeable guide. We were picked up from our hotel and traveled to Haworth, visiting the Parsonage Museum where the Brontë sisters grew up, as well as the church and post office from which they mailed their manuscripts. We then continued into the Yorkshire Dales and the otherworldly moors, passing beautiful historic villages and farms, a castle, and a creamery, and even taking a walk to a waterfall. My family learned a great deal about Yorkshire while traveling in Richard’s comfortable car and felt well looked after throughout the day.

I reached out to Expedition Yorkshire after doing some research online looking for a company that could do a custom, private tour for our family. We were wanting to see several places from All Creatures Great and Small as well as visit the Yorkshire Dales National Park and tour Bolton Castle. Andrew was quick to reply to me via email and provide dates they were available to take us as well as the cost. Richard was our driver/guide for the day and he did a phenomenal job on our tour. He was punctual picking us up, very polite, took us to all the places we requested, recommended and called ahead to book us lunch reservations at a great restaurant we would have never known about and even added in a few extra lovely surprises along the way. We stopped at a sweet shop, a hot cocoa shop, a beautiful waterfall and a church that he was able to fit in time wise for us along with all of our planned stops. Richard was just all around wonderful to spend the day with, had a great sense of humor and was a delight. Our 13 yr old daughter really appreciated the fun extra stops and being able to get her feet wet in the waterfall. I would HIGHLY recommend Expedition Yorkshire for anyone looking for a private tour or day trip. They were great with communication, punctual, provided a clean Mercedes van, gave us lots of knowledge about the sites and it was well worth the money spent to have these wonderful memories.

Expedition Yorkshire is a top-notch organization. My mother and I took two tours with Richard, who hails from the region and is incredibly knowledgeable. He first brought us straight to the Parsonage in Haworth, curating the trip to our interests knowing we are big fans of the Brontës. After spending the morning and part of the afternoon there, lunching at Branwell’s old haunt The Black Bull, we explored the Yorkshire Dales National Park. On our second tour we got out to the countryside where James Herriot’s ashes were scattered; we took pictures to our heart’s content. We drank in the scenery at North York Moors National Park, roaming Byland Abbey and viewing other abbeys demolished by Henry VIII, exploring the charming Whitby, and experiencing the vivid medieval wall paintings at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church. Every tour ends with a helpful recap so we can better remember everything we did that day. Richard’s expertise painted an intimate portrait of the region, one we will not soon forget. These tours were the highlight of our trip. We are definitely coming back for more!

If you’re looking for a private tour of the Yorkshire Dales, Moors, “All Creatures Great & Small” or anywhere else in the area, you can’t go wrong with Expedition Yorkshire. Andrew was a delight to work with when setting up our tour and accommodated our late booking. Our guide, Richard, was fantastic; he was keenly interested in finding out what our interests were, and tailored the trip accordingly. The vehicle was luxury Mercedes V-Class with seats for 7 guests. We enjoyed the door-to-door service, the spectacular scenery, and Richard’s interesting commentary. Highly recommended!

Andrew was a fabulous guide, both knowledgeable and charming. While making sure we got to see the prearranged sites that we wanted to see, he was flexible and a good listener to our needs to make it a wonderful experience. For example, he took the weather forecast into account and switched the order of locations accordingly, and even fit in a couple of extra sites along the way. We would highly recommend.

Andrew was an incredible tour guide and his vehicle was superb. Driving was comfortable and scenery was very insane. It was a private and secluded tour even when in public spaces.

We were traveling to York at the beginning of March and were interested in seeing some sites in the northern part of England, but not interested in driving ourselves. Happily, we found Expedition Yorkshire, and arranged a custom tour with them. Armed with only the information that we wanted to see Hadrian's Wall and visit the Vindolanda archaeological site and museum, Yorkshire Expeditions arranged a full day tour that also included the Bowes Museum, the Yorkshire Dales and catching a glimpse of the marvelous Ribblehead Viaduct with the last few moments of daylight. Andrew was an incredibly engaging and knowledgeable guide, who seemed to know as much about the geopolitics of Northern England 2000 years ago as he did more recent events. He made sure that we took the most picturesque route, found us a great pub before we went to Vindolanda, located a portion of Hadrian's Wall that was not only situated in one of the most stunning views I have seen, but also accessible for someone who had just pulled a hamstring and wasn't up to hiking on the day. Additionally, the car was very comfortable for adult-sized adults, and the car snacks provided were on point. Best value for money of our trip. I would wholeheartedly recommend hiring Expedition Yorkshire for anyone who enjoys both looking at old things and also understanding the context of the world that created them.

A winter trip to the UK doesn’t sound like the most ideal time to visit the Yorkshire Dales. Weather should not hinder you. Arrange a tour with Expedition Yorkshire if you travel to London. Grab a fast train to York and meet up with Andrew. You will not be disappointed, even if it’s raining. It was wonderful to have a tour guide like Andrew not only maneuver through the dales, but share his knowledge of this absolutely, beautiful region of the UK. He tailored this tour to our special interest in the books and series, 'All Creatures Great and Small'. His genuine love of the Dales and skill weaving historical information of the area plus highlighting recognizable 'All Creatures Great and Small' locations was an absolute delight. Too bad we only had one day to soak up just a bit of Andrew’s knowledge. Thank you, Andrew. I’m already making a dream file for a potential York family get-away for our Wisconsin and Slovakia kids. Andrew’s tours are certainly a part of that dream.

We definitely chose the best outfit to experience our all-day excursion to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Our guide Richard was fabulous. He made our trip both informative but very relaxing given we had a young child with us. He was able to incorporate a couple of stops I inquired about from my friend's suggestions. It was very apparent how much Richard loves the Dales, and it made its impression on us. The beauty of the landscape was breathtaking. The best part of the trip was that we never felt rushed, allowing us to soak up everything we saw. By daysend, Richard was much more than our guide. We considered him our friend. Andrew was a delight to work with arranging our day, and Richard, as our guide, was simply the best. We highly recommend taking a trip with Expedition Yorkshire.
