Une visite d'un tronçon de l'autoroute basque 101 à travers les plus grands succès de la côte basque (Quelqu'un a-t-il dit "Dragonstone" ?), en arrivant au musée du titane qui a mis Bilbao sur la carte.

Le philosophe français Jean-Jacques Rousseau a écrit : « Gernika est la ville la plus heureuse du monde. Leurs affaires sont régies par un conseil de paysans qui se réunit sous un chêne et prend toujours les décisions les plus justes ». Et nous y voilà, dans la ville bombardée par les avions nazis en 1937 qui a inspiré l'un des tableaux les plus connus au monde, la fresque de Picasso "Guernica". Nous visiterons la ville et, bien sûr, l'arbre sous lequel (nous l'espérons) les "plus justes décisions" sont prises.
Mémorisez ce nom : ‘Urdaibai’ et essayez de bien le prononcer (ce n’est pas facile, on le sait) car vous ne l’oublierez pas. Déclarée réserve de biosphère par l'UNESCO, Urdaibai est un grand estuaire où se rejoignent montagnes, rivières, mer et grandes étendues de sable. Selon la marée et l'heure de la journée, le paysage (et les dizaines d'oiseaux qui l'habitent) peut être radicalement différent.
Nous nous arrêterons également à Mundaka, un point chaud sur les routes de «surfaris» du monde: sa plage possède l'une des vagues les plus (peut-être les plus) parfaites de la planète, avec une pause à gauche. Au fronton de cet adorable village de pêcheurs, nous vous défions pour un match de pelote basque, la vraie, jouée à mains nues et avec une balle qui ressemble à de la pierre.
Certains l'appellent "Dragonstone", mais son nom est San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, un îlot relié au sol par une ligne de 241 marches et couronné par un ermitage. Gaztelugatxe est devenu ultra-célèbre après être apparu dans la série Games Of Thrones déguisé en Peyredragon : Bien que le « château » soit un effet CGI, tout le reste (falaises vertigineuses, rochers pointus, volées d'oiseaux, le bruit de la mer...) est furieusement réel.
Les habitants de Bilbao ont toujours affirmé que leur ville était la capitale du monde. Lorsque le musée Guggenheim a ouvert ses portes en 1997, cette prophétie s'est réalisée et le bâtiment est devenu un phénomène architectural dont l'influence s'est propagée dans le reste de la ville. Les habitants de Bilbao disent que le musée est en fait la "niche" de Puppy, la statue emblématique qui vous accueille à l'entrée (mode ironique basque activé). Nous ferons connaissance avec le bâtiment et ses principales œuvres d'art contemporain.

Malena was pur guide and we did two tours with her. I cannot begin to describe how amazingly, full of knowledge and accommodating she was. If you want to explore the Basque Country find amazing gastronomy and local gems you have to request her. You’ll start with a tour guide and leave with a friend.
Great day tour from San Sebastian. Malena was very knowledgeable about the area and you learn about the surrounding towns and history. She was also super nice. Highly recommend!

I had an amazing time touring the Guggenheim in Bilbao. My favorite building and I finally got to see it! Xabier was very knowledgeable and friendly. He also was my guide for a Pintxos tour around Bilbao. He showed me through the new and old city. He had lots of interesting gems of knowledge. We ended in his favorite locate spots. The next day Ernes drove me from Bilbao to San Sebastian. We made many stops on the scenic route in a few small villages. I had the best Pintxos on that journey! The next day Ernes pick me up for a tour of San Sebastian. I feel like we covered most of the city and it made me comfortable to venture out on my own and explore. Definitely a great experience!
What a beautiful way to discover the Basque Country :) From the Guggenheim and Bilbao’s pintxos scene to the coastal villages on the way to San Sebastián, it sounds like you experienced many different sides of this region in just a few days. We’re really happy Xabier and Ernes helped make everything feel personal, relaxed and easy to explore, especially giving you the confidence to continue enjoying San Sebastián on your own afterwards. And honestly, scenic drives with surprise pintxos stops are one of the best ways to travel around here ;)

This was the best tour we have had in Europe. Daniel was wonderful. Our guide Daniel, was nice, well informed, kept the perfect pace, and was a pleasure to spend the day with. The car was very nice. Loved the stops along the way and the Guggenheim visit and lunch.
I want to give 10 stars to Ikusnahi (Curiosity) Tours - and Tour Designer - Ernes. From the architecture and wonders of the Guggenheim to the incredible San Sebastian and Hondarribia, we didn't leave a stone unturned. Hiking up to monasteries, city-biking around cities, e-biking up and down mountain ranges, and walking the beaches of the French Basque countryside, the views, history, geography and conversation were never-ending. We ate incredible Pintxos, toured the lush Rioja wineries and tasted the delicacies of the land, from fabulous Basque cuisine to a Cider House and Food Club. Don't forget to drink Txakoli and Glorioso! And have a cooking class with Chef Bendur- you will be proud of what you cook - and eat! We were lucky enough to see an epic football game against friendly rivals Bilbao and San Sebastien! (San Sebastien 3-0!). *A note about Ernes- he is incredibly knowledgeable, always happy, very accommodating and loves his country from the outside in and the inside out. His teams, including Mikhail and Anya, are all professional and great to be with, no matter which tour, activity or adventure you are on. We had a fabulous tour with Markel a/k/a Mark. He was a fount of information and history. We peppered him with questions about history, politics, sport, literature and net flix.
