Description
Suivez les traces de Dick Winters et de sa bande de frères lors de l'opération Market-Garden et sur l'île. Vous visiterez tous les lieux liés à la saga Band of Brothers en Hollande. C'est une tournée chargée donc "Hang Tough". Et nous avons une pause déjeuner dans un musée intéressant. La durée de la visite de 10 à 11 heures comprend le temps de trajet. Le caractère de visite du champ de bataille de ce voyage signifie beaucoup de trajets plus courts et plus longs vers et entre les lieux.

Après une heure et demie de route depuis Amsterdam, nous arrivons à Dropzone C. C'était la zone d'atterrissage d'Easy Company. Ils ont aimé l'atterrissage en douceur dans les champs et on comprend pourquoi. La ferme Paulushoef servait de point de ralliement et la population locale s'affairait à aider les blessés et les assoiffés aéroportés. La ferme n'est pas ouverte aux visiteurs.
De la zone de largage, nous suivons l'avancée de la compagnie Easy jusqu'au pont de Son. Il a été détruit par les Allemands. Une passerelle est improvisée et l'avancée vers Eindhoven se poursuit. Plus tard, les Allemands ont tenté de reprendre le pont avec une attaque Panzer qui a été vaincue après un dur combat.
À Eindhoven, nous voyons la rue dans laquelle les gens faisaient la fête pendant que la compagnie Easy avançait pour capturer le pont Dommel et attendait les chars de la Guards Armoured Division. Plus tard, la ville a été bombardée par les Allemands.
Nous conduisons à Nuenen. Ici, Easy Company a eu un combat acharné avec la 107 Panzer Brigade attaquant de l'Est. Nuenen est également célèbre sous le nom de Vincent Van Gogh Village.
Nous nous arrêtons pour le déjeuner et une visite au musée Wings of Liberation. Le musée est dédié à l'opération Market-Garden. Vous pouvez voir des cartes explicatives et des uniformes, des équipements et des véhicules utilisés dans les expositions atmosphériques. Il est situé dans une zone boisée sur un site de stockage de la guerre froide. Le musée est fermé le lundi.
Les Allemands ont fait des tentatives désespérées pour couper "Hells Highway" la voie d'avance et de ravitaillement du XXX-corps. Le Moulin d'Eerde et la route de Koevering étaient des lieux très disputés.
Dans cette ferme de The Island, la célèbre photo de Dick Winters a été prise devant la porte d'entrée. Nous faisons une halte ici pour que vous puissiez faire de même. Sur la route, il y a un monument pour Easy Company couvrant le déploiement de l'île. La ferme n'est pas ouverte aux visiteurs.
Notre dernier arrêt est au carrefour où un détachement de Easy Company a rencontré 2 compagnies SS allemandes et les a mises en déroute. Vous verrez à quel point le terrain est ouvert avec la seule couverture provenant de digues et de fossés de drainage. Un petit monument commémore l'action. De là, il y a environ 1,5 heure de retour à Amsterdam.

This experience meant far more to us than we expected. Standing in the very places where the soldiers of Operation Market Garden fought and fell gave us a sense of connection that was deeply personal for my family of 4. This experience wasn’t just about learning history—it was experiencing the places of history that books and movies cannot express. Hearing the stories while walking the same ground made the war feel closer, more human, and profoundly real. We found ourselves imagining their decisions, their sacrifices, and the impossible moments they faced. It gave us a new level of respect for the men who fought though out the Netherlands and left a lasting impression that we will take with us for the rest of our lives. Jip did an outstanding job of bringing all of these stories to life. He presented pictures, accounts, and his own unique blend of experience that accentuated this trip. This is by far one of the best experiences myself and my family have had in our travels, and we are greatly appreciative of Jip for helping us create family memories that will last a lifetime. We all 50, 40ish, 20 and 12 year olds, recommend this adventure. (5 stars is not enough)

Jip was outstanding in his knowledge of Easy Co 506th, Band of Brothers and Operation Market Garden. He took us to all the key sites, from the Easy Co. drop zone through The Crossroads, which included a visit to a very cool museum. Was a bucket list tour for me and it exceeded my expectations! Had a running conversation with Jip all day about Easy Co and Operation Market Garden, regarding tactics, personnel, and US Army/British Senior Leaders. Jip took us on an incredible day trip from Amsterdam to Bastogne and Foy! My husband is a passionate about World War II, particularly the journey Easy Company had through Europe. When he saw that we could do this tour, it was a must!
