Les visites se réunissent à 9h00 pour un départ à 9h15 de l'avant de l'hôtel Columba
Tout d'abord, une visite et une dégustation à la distillerie Glen Moray à Elgin nous ramène au traditionnel. Un changement de propriétaire en 2008 a permis à la distillerie de revenir « à l'essentiel » et de produire un single malt du Speyside simple et de qualité. Le résultat est la gamme « Elgin Heritage », composée d'un single malt de 12, 15 et 18 ans qui ne déçoit pas.
Ensuite, direction notre prochaine distillerie. On dit que « Rome a été construite sur sept collines et Dufftown se dresse sur sept collines ». L'un de ces alambics est la célèbre distillerie Glenfiddich, la prochaine étape de notre itinéraire pour une dégustation de whisky. Glenfiddich est l'une des rares distilleries qui reste une entreprise familiale, produisant un single malt distinctif développé par des générations de « fabricants de whisky non-conformistes ». Aujourd’hui, Glenfiddich est le whisky single malt le plus primé, témoignage des méthodes sans compromis de la distillerie.
Arrêtez-vous ici pour déjeuner et admirer le bar construit en 1896 et conçu pour ressembler à un petit navire.
Nous quittons les Highlands accidentés et commençons notre voyage à travers la luxuriante vallée de la Spey, en passant devant des champs d'orge dorés sur notre piste de whisky, l'un des trois ingrédients clés utilisés dans la magie de la production de whisky single malt. Profitez d'une dégustation à la distillerie Cardhu, fondée en 1824 par les anciens contrebandiers de whisky, John et Helen Cumming. À l'époque de la distillation illicite du couple, Helen brandissait un drapeau rouge pour avertir les voisins que des hommes d'accise logeaient avec eux dans leur ferme. La distillerie Cardhu a été l'une des premières à s'associer à John Walker & Sons. Il est resté dans cette famille pendant 200 ans, produisant avec soin le whisky single malt « caractère élégant, doux et sensuel de Cardhu ».
Depuis 1865, Glenfarclas est détenu et géré par une seule famille, The Grants of Glenfarclas.

Bob was an experienced guide with lots of information to share. He is everything you can ask for in a guide. The tour itself was a highlight on our trip, we got to experience how whiskey is produced and also visit several distilleries and taste many different whiskeys.

The picture is where I waited for 45 minutes before I was told the trip I had booked for in February, paid for on Sunday and reminded on 2 days before and the day before was CANCELLED! 6 months and my money wasted ! It was to be the HIGHLIGHT of my Highlands tour 🙄. I travelled 3500 miles for this excursion 🤨. Thanks VIOLATOR and Not Happy Tours for ruining my holiday! Yeah, this is a BOGUS BS non-excursion! BEWARE! 😒
This is an extreme reaction to a situation totally out with our control, and a genuine booking error on our part. . The distilleries this year have been so unpredictable with letting tour companies book tours and tastings. They are still not operating to the capacity they did pre covid . We felt we could not give you the tour to the high level of customer service we maintain. We came in person to apologise and explain the situation. You got an immediate on the spot refund of everything you paid. I helped you to book the tour of Glenmorangie you wanted so bad, along with travel there, and left you with what seemed to me and you at the time a good resolution. We even shook hands on it and had a joke.
We took the Speyside whisky tour with Robbie and had a fantastic time! Plenty of local knowledge and fascinating off-track detours made the tour a wonderful experience.

The contrast between the distilleries was amazing and all offered something unique. Our driver/guide Bill was a font of knowledge and made the trip an exceptional experience. He really did go the extra mile!

Our guide & driver Rob was the best part of our day. He recited Robbie Burns, sang songs about the Gordon clan, and entertained us with tales of the Orange versus the Jacobites. He knows every rock band worth its salt, can play the entire guitar solo from Metallica’s Whisky In The Jar, and told us all about salmon fishing on the Beauly. Plus he looked after each of us and made sure we each had a lovely day. We went on this tour to drink whisky but had no idea that the whisky would be completely overshadowed by a true gentleman and a scholar. We will never forget the sound of “To A Mouse” as recited by Rob, the highlight of our trip. One of Scotland’s finest - we hope we meet him again some day.
