I have rarely ever taken a tour as fascinating and worthwhile as this one. The guide picks you up at a place of your your own choosing, then takes you to Soweto while telling you about the many facets of this place. Coming from Europe we had our very own expectations and preconceptions of this place. I underestimated both the size and the diversity of it. It‘s not only shantytowns! The whole history of apartheid, the uprising of 1976 and its aftermath hit differently when you walk these streets and talk to people who were affected by it one way or another, and still you see people for what they are – not that different from everyone else, living their daily lives as best they can, embracing community and family. You get to meet real people and hear personal stories, an experience that not many of us “Westerners” get to have, and I will be forever grateful for the privilege of being so warmly welcomed despite my preconceptions. Most importantly, despite the weird feeling you just can’t shake off if you first visit a place you only ever heard rumours about, we never felt unsafe and were treated very warmly by the inhabitants of Soweto. African hospitality truly is unmatched. You leave this place a changed man for sure. I want to extend a special thanks to Thabang, our guide who made this experience unforgettable. It felt like being shown around your friend‘s neighbourhood. Highly recommended!
We found this trip extremely valuable, you also see South Africa from its other side and you get a better picture of it through personal stories. You also go to places that are a little more special than the average tourist places. The guide Thabang was fantastic. pick up at our hotel and return home was perfectly arranged. Absolutely recommended!
We were guided by Thabang on today’s tour & he was absolutely fantastic. We were unsure where to meet as we were driving in from Pretoria & he recommended where was safe. His communication was very clear & timing perfect. Our tour was all we wanted & more getting right into the heart of Soweto & feeling very safe at all times. Thabangs knowledge is second to none & his English is perfect & so articulate. I would really recommend this tour with him. Thank you for an excellent half day.
Neo gave us an amazing tour, very nice guy
An unforgettable experience. Our guide Tahbang took us through the township of Soweto, including a walk through the lower-class areas, offering both a thoughtful historical context of South Africa and Johannesburg, and genuine encounters with locals going about their everyday lives. What struck us most was the sense of community safety and solidarity—despite staying in upscale areas of Johannesburg, we felt genuinely safer walking through Soweto. Tahbang helped us understand what 'community' truly means in South Africa. This was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip. You have to experience it to understand. Highly recommended.

Had an excellent and thought-provoking tour experience with the company owner, a Soweto local. My sister and I had the opportunity to tour through multiple neighborhoods and to learn about Soweto's history and its post-apartheid story. The guide gave in-depth information and context around our particular interests in medicine and education. My impression was that we got to see much more than the "typical" tour. Highly recommend.

My friend and I enjoyed this tour a lot. Knowledgeable local tour guide. Highly recommend for a balanced, intimate view of Soweto.

Operator cancelled and never notified us! We were at meeting point and after 5 minutes past meeting time, I messaged operator and got no reply. Called Viator and agent informed me the operator cancelled and emailed me. They did, three minutes after I messaged to request status of tour! This operator is not reliable!!
Hi David we take full responsibility for letting you down it is so unlike us. With your booking on an Easter weekend all museums and sites were closed hence we could not go ahead with the tour, with you having made the booking last minute we only noticed your booking when you called and refunded you and we are so sorry for the inconvenience we will do better next time.
