Des bars emblématiques aux joyaux cachés, nous plongerons dans les saveurs, l'histoire et la culture qui font de Saint-Sébastien l'une des destinations gastronomiques les plus prisées au monde. En cours de route, nous rencontrerons les gens derrière la nourriture et goûterons à tout, des fromages aux pintxos, des pâtisseries aux vins, et du cidre aux liqueurs, découvrant pourquoi la cuisine basque va bien au-delà des pintxos. Notre aventure commence par un court arrêt dans une fromagerie de quartier adorée. Les étagères sont garnies de plus de 50 variétés artisanales, chacune fabriquée avec soin et portant sa propre histoire. Nous choisirons une sélection spécialement préparée pour être appréciée plus tard, certaines saveurs valent la peine d’être anticipées.
Notre étape suivante nous emmène dans un bar contemporain célébré pour sa jeune et inventive équipe culinaire. Ici, nous allons enfin ouvrir cette boîte de dégustation de fromage, en l’associant à un verre rafraîchissant de vin naturel. Vient ensuite l’un des pintxos phares de Saint-Sébastien, vibrant, expressif et indubitablement basque, mêlant racines traditionnelles et créativité moderne.
Dans l’un des lieux légendaires du pintxo de la ville, les intemporels produits basques s’offrent une nouvelle perspective. Les ingrédients familiers sont transformés grâce à une technique Experte et des rebondissements imaginatifs. Juste à l'extérieur, les rues étroites de la vieille ville murmurent des histoires de pionniers gastronomiques et de générations de chefs qui ont façonné cette capitale culinaire.
Cachés dans un caviste historique vieux de plus d’un siècle, nous nous arrêtons pour siroter le Patxaran, la liqueur régionale chérie infusée aux baies de prunelles. Doux, doux et profondément lié à l’identité basque, surtout lorsqu’il est associé à un délicat bonbon local. C’est un moment calme, significatif et imprégné de tradition.
Cette étape célèbre l'essence de la saveur basque, réunissant le meilleur de l'océan et de la campagne dans une seule assiette. Il fait partie d’un projet culinaire prix où l’artisanat moderne du pintxo rencontre des ingrédients locaux primés. Attendez-vous à des créations imaginatives ancrées dans la tradition : innovantes, expressives et indubitablement basques.
Nous entrons ensuite dans un petit établissement dirigé par des femmes qui rayonne de chaleur. Connu pour sa cuisine axée sur le marché et son atmosphère conviviale, c'est le genre d'endroit caché que seuls les habitants connaissent habituellement. Une fois à l'intérieur, son charme rend difficile de dire au revoir, un aperçu authentique de l'hospitalité basque quotidienne.
Notre voyage se termine dans une pâtisserie historique de la vieille ville, réputée pour sa pantxineta : un dessert basque classique de pâte feuilletée croustillante et de crème anglaise crémeuse. Fraîchement sorti du four et incroyablement gourmand, il offre une finale délicieusement locale à notre expérience pintxo.

We sampled Basque cheese, wines, pintxos and desserts over 3 hours with our excellent guide Malena. Walked all over San Sebastián to 6 food places while Malena pointed out several other details about the city and Basque culture. We enjoyed a variety of seafood, egg, pork, beef and vegetarian pintxos, along with local wines, vermouth and cider. Malena was very mindful of our vegetarian/pescatarian friends’ food restrictions as well as our preferences of the type of pintxos. Overall a great experience.

San Sebastián did not disappoint. It’s a beautiful city, very walkable and the food options are outstanding. The Pinxtos are out of this world and there are so many options to try. Beef cheek, Pork ribs, Seafood and vegetarian dishes. The beach’s are immaculate and you can hire surf gear at reasonable rates. It’s worth taking the open top bus tour which you can hop on and off. And the Funicular destination is a must, the view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking. The city is also excellent value for money and the people are always friendly. We will definitely visit again.
We enjoyed every bit of this tour, and our host was knowledgeable and did everything in our power to make it so enjoyable. The highlight was the pulled pork sandwich!
Thoroughly recommend this tour. Martin was an excellent guide with great knowledge of the local food and culture. Doing it on our first night was perfect. It gave us confidence navigating pintxos bars, plus we got to try other regional specialities we wouldn’t have found on our own. A great mix of food, insight, and orientation - the ideal start to a visit in San Sebastián.
We completely agree that doing a food tour on the first evening in San Sebastián is one of the best ways to start a trip :) Once you understand the rhythm of the pintxos bars and the local food culture, the whole city opens up in a different way. Our guide Mattin was wonderful, friendly, close and very knowledgeable. He took us to places outside the tourist circuit, places that if you don't know them as local, you wouldn't discover. The best thing was that we tried pintxos made at the moment, none of the typical bar full of pintxos that look with the naked eye
I found it an exceptional tour. Both for the selection of venues visited and for the professionalism of Mattin and Lucia. I recommend it for all those who want to discover new places, beyond the classic pintxos tour done in the city.

Ernes was amazing! We tried many different pintxos and wines and had impromptu stops along the tour..We also learned all about San Sebastián and the Basque culture… A great way to spend 3 hours.. highly recommend!
From the moment the tour began, it was clear that this was not just about food but an immersive experience into the Basque culture, guided by experts with a true passion for their city's gastronomy. The selection of pintxos and wine pairings was exceptional. The guides were truly knowledgeable, not just about the food/wine but also about San Sebastian's history and culinary traditions. Perhaps the most exciting part was the discovery of hidden gems-places we might have walked past without a second glance. These places delivered some of the most amazing pintxos we had eaten. Overall, this tour is a MUST for food lovers! It strikes the perfect balance between a little history and indulgence, offering a deeper appreciation of Basque cuisine while treating us all to an unforgettable evening. Oh wait...did I forget to mention the final stop...a chocolate stop. Not just any chocolate...the best! This tour is highly recommended.
