If I could give this tour 10 out of 10 stars, I absolutely would! Our trip to Neuschwanstein Castle was unforgettable, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Stephen. From the very beginning, his communication was excellent, everything was perfectly organized, and the entire experience ran seamlessly. Stephen is incredibly knowledgeable—a true history enthusiast (or “history nerd” in the very best sense of the word!). His depth of knowledge about the castle, King Ludwig II, and the region was remarkable. More importantly, he has a wonderful gift for bringing history to life, making every story engaging, fascinating, and easy to follow. As photography enthusiasts, we especially appreciated his artistic eye. He pointed out spectacular photo locations that we would never have found on our own and shared valuable photography tips that helped us capture some of our favorite memories from the trip. The tour operator was equally impressive—professional, responsive, and genuinely committed to providing a first-class experience. It’s clear they know exactly what they’re doing, and every detail reflected their experience and dedication. Without a doubt, this was one of the best guided tours we have ever taken. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Neuschwanstein Castle. Thank you, Stephen, for making our visit so memorable!
My husband, 14 year old son and I took trains from Munich to Fussen, then a bus to the meeting point at the bottom of the hill from the beautiful castle, where we met the tour guide Stephan. Our group was around 20-25 people, families, couples. Stephan was a wealth of knowledge on King Ludwig. He shared lots of history with a little humor throughout the tour. As was advertised, we were shuttled to the bridge across from the castle where we had the best views. But the large crowd from other groups made it rushed, and a little nervous on the narrow bridge. There is a lot of walking up spiral stairs once inside the castle but the interior is worth seeing. I ended up buying a book since we were not allowed to take pictures during the audio guide. We then were able to take a horse carriage down the hill since it was a cool day for the horses. I was extremely pleased with this tour, my son loved the carriage ride, and my husband loved hearing all about the history. Stephan provided a wonderful experience for us.
The visit was relatively expensive; fortunately, our guide, Stephen, explained the history of the castle well. The carriage ride was nice 👍.
Amazing experience. Amir was so engaging and taught us so much. Had a wonderful day. Way better than the simple tour. Would pay for this again all day long.
Our guide Stephen was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the history surrounding the building of the castle. Stephen made the tour of the castle much more meaningful.

Thank you so much for the lovely review, Dina! We're thrilled to hear you had a fun day and that Stephen's storytelling and patience made the tour so enjoyable. He really does have a wonderful way of bringing the castle's history to life. We hope to see you again soon!
Our guide Stephen Wendel was fantastic! He made sure we had priority on the horse carriages and looked out for us (shade, walk away from noise to facilitate hearing, etc)And the whole tour very well organized.
Thank you so much, Maria! We're delighted to hear that Stephen made such a wonderful impression. Ensuring our guests get priority access and are looked after throughout the tour is something we take great pride in. It's especially rewarding to know that the little details — like finding shade and making sure everyone could hear clearly — made a difference. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable visit!
The guided tour , both before, and after the castle, was a wonderful experience - providing great insight & context to the visit itself. I highly recommend using the guided tour to enhance your experience. Stephen was our tour guide; he provided colorful stories of a Wagnerian level. Steven also expertly addressed all questions from the group.
Thank you for this lovely review, Joe! We're so pleased to hear that the guided tours both before and after the castle added such great depth to your visit. Stephen has a real gift for storytelling and historical context, and we're thrilled it made the experience so much more meaningful. We hope to welcome you back for another tour!
The tour is a mixture of stories by our guide and an audio tour inside side the castle. We moved from the meeting spot to Marie’s bridge (expect a line), then walked up to the castle. Stephen was very knowledgeable and told great stories about the history of the castle and Bavarian rulers. Our only surprises were that we couldn’t take pictures in the castle and there were a lot of steps! We skipped the horse carriage return trip and ate at the Neuschwanstein Castle restaurant (highly recommend!) Stephen gave us a shortcut back to parking lot 3 ahead of time. We enjoyed the tour!
Thank you for this wonderful review, Jenny! It's great to hear that Stephen's knowledge of the castle and Bavarian history made the tour so engaging. We love that you discovered the castle restaurant and found Stephen's insider tips helpful — that's exactly the kind of personalized experience we aim to provide. We hope to see you on another tour soon!
Even though there is a bus ride up, there is a lot of walking to the Marian Bridge and to the castle from the bridge - not flat walking.
Thank you for sharing this helpful information, Colleen! You're absolutely right — while the bus ride provides access up the hill, the walk to Mary's Bridge and then to the castle does involve some uneven terrain and steps. We always encourage guests to wear comfortable walking shoes and prepare for a bit of exercise — but the views and experience are absolutely worth it! We hope you enjoyed the tour overall.
