We purchased the 3-in-1 experience. The Coffee & Chocolate experience followed by the night tour. Overall it was an OK experience. If you are a coffee lover and interested in the history and making of it, then this tour is a must do. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgable about the history, cultivation, harvesting & roasting. The tour covers the entire coffee journey. We also get to taste coffee beans in different stages and eventually also get to see the process of making a Dark Chocolate. We also get to taste some delicious pre-made white and dark chocolate bars for tasting. The tour then moves to a guided nocturnal tour. The guide helped some with umbrellas for rain and shoes in case they were not appropriate for the hike. The tour mostly is within their coffee estate and seems like a controlled environment. We did see few variety of wild life like Armadillos, scorpions, lizards, porcupine & tarantula. If you are someone who does not have a lot of time then this 3-in-1 tour should be sufficient. However if you really want to experience the Nocturnal tours, then this definitely is not worth it and you are better off doing the tours which are advertised specifically for nocturnal wild life tours. The night tour lasted about an hour and ended in a Souvenirs shop which has different types of coffee beans and ground coffee to taste and purchase. They range from small packets to large. Overall for a coffee lover this tour is worth while. If you are excited to experience the Nocturnal animals, then you are better off doing a separate Nocturnal tour.
Our tour guide José was extremely knowledgeable. The tour took us through all of the stages of chocolate making, coffee production and sugar cane. It was hands on throughout and José also pointed out wildlife to us. We tried cacoa at its various stages and tried a drink. Next we help press sugar cane and all tried the juice which was amazing! They should really bottle and sell it. Finally we learned all about coffee. Right from the soil to the cup. José told us all about the history of Costa Rica and production. He had a wonderful sense of humour and engaged every person on the tour. There wasn’t too much walking to do and it was very manageable.
Nice little tour, learnt a bit about chocolate and coffee production. The night tour was a bit tame until we saw two fighting Kinkajous. One fell out of a tree and the other one pooped on my wife!! Highlight of the evening!! Our guide was great and the coffee was good. We bought chocolate to bring home and it didn't last the evening - yummy!
This was a very fun excursion. The guide was absolutely incredible (and spoke multiple languages) - the chocolate and coffee processes were fascinating and tasty! On the trek through the jungle he found tarantulas and so many other frogs and insects👍
We had Jorge as our guide and he was wonderful. Very thorough. The tour was really well organized - informative and hands on. Jorge also took photos on our night walk with his camera and is emailing them to us.
Our guide was funny and informative. Even with it pouring rain, we had a great tour.
The guide was VERY knowledgeable about both coffee and chocolate agricultural processes. He was passionate and patient with the 'dumb' tourists. The night walk in the rain forest was fine, but we had hoped for about double the length or more. Walked about 20 min...were hoping for about an hour in the rainforest.
Amazing experience. We learned how coffee is harvested and roasted. We also learned how to make chocolate with lots of sampling. Our guide was excellent and knowledgeable. The night walk was an excellent way to end the experience. We saw a birds and frogs! A beautiful place for a walk.
An excellent overview of chocolate and coffee production. Carlos was very knowledgeable and found us a sloth and tarantula- thank you. Overpriced - other night hikes we saw more variety.
We had a very windy night, not perfect for animal searching. Coffee and chocolate tours are pretty good with all procedures clearly demonstrated, quite entertaining with tour guide.
