Tour was great! Roy was an outstanding guide. His knowledge of the forest and wildlife was very impressive. Thanks to Roy, we were able to see a wide variety of wildlife. What stood out was seeing an Emerald Toucanet! He was enthusiastic and always happy to answer questions. The could forest itself is stunning, but having Roy as our guide made it much better.
Worst experience. The shuttle didn’t show up si we had to walk all the way to the entrance. The guide was terrible. We felt like we wasted our money. Not at all recommending. Do not waste your money. The trip doesn’t include entry fee to the park which is appx $30 per person. As such we should have omitted the guide and just went thru the park ticket.
Hi . You did the tour Whit a different company. Not whit Roy's tours monteverde. We don't offer shuttle service. If the shuttle didn't show up is not our fault. We donde have that service. In our company we are very clear about entrance fe. $29 pp no $30 pp is not included. Is sad for us this situation. People do tour Whit different company's and then leave a review in our profile. Sometimes good reviews sometimes not good. Bot you never have a experience Whit our guide's.
Fernando with Roy's Tours of Monteverde led my wife and I on a very good tour. We saw 5 Quetzal's that we would not have seen without Fernando. He is very knowledgeable and patient.
Roy is a wonderful guide. His passion for nature and sharing his love of nature really shines through. He is very informative and takes his time to find and show us amazing birds. It made our walk through the Heat of the Forest so much more delightful. Highly recommend Roy as your next nature guide.
If you're visiting Monteverde and only do one thing, make it this tour with Roy. We booked the Cloud Forest Guided Nature Walk through Roy's the Monteverde local nature guide's, and it genuinely exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we met Roy at the reserve entrance, his passion for the cloud forest was infectious. He's not just a guide — he's a naturalist, a storyteller, and clearly someone who has spent years building a deep, genuine relationship with this ecosystem. Within the first few minutes he had spotted birds I would have walked right past without a second glance, and using his spotting scope he brought the canopy down to eye level in the most remarkable way. We were lucky enough to catch a Resplendent Quetzal — arguably one of the most sought-after birds in all of Central America — and Roy made sure we had a clear, unhurried view. That alone would have made the tour worthwhile, we also saw a green viper camouflaged almost invisibly on a leaf, and more bird species than I can count. Roy knew the nesting spots, the feeding habits, the ecological context behind everything and he shared it all with patience and real enthusiasm. What sets Roy apart is that he never rushes you. He answers every question thoughtfully, and clearly takes pride not just in the sightings but in what you learn along the way. His respect for the forest and its conservation is evident in everything he does. If you are a nature lover, or just someone who wants to truly experience the magic of the Monteverde Cloud Forest rather than simply walk through it — Roy is your guide. Absolutely world-class. Pura vida!
Wao. I don't know what to say. Al I can say is thank you so much for your amazing review. Bless
Amazing Experience! The tour guide Fernando was super knowledgeable. He showed us many species of birds. We were extremely fortunate to see the resplendent Quetzal :). He also was very patient and answered all of our questions!!
Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. Bless
Roy was an excellent guide to this beautiful cloud forest preserve, he was a fantastic source of knowledge about so many bird species and we were lucky to see a breeding pair of Quetzals as well as many other species. Very much recommend Roy’s Tour
Thank you so much.
This was my second time using Roy as a naturalist and birding guide in Monteverde. This April 2026 trip was with a group of six birders and naturalists friends from Houston and Dallas. We had one anniversary celebrating trip couple from Chicago join our group for a total of 8 people in the tour. Roy did a great job at creating a comfortable atmosphere for all from the get-go. We saw many birds, insects, and flora and Roy described them all and answered questions very well. He brought a spotting scope which was very helpful as the canopy in spots was dense. Our birders in the group were of course after the birds, and Roy spotted a female Resplendent Quetzal for about 20 minutes and we heard the male but never saw him. We also spotted a male Red-headed Barbet and about 20 other fantastic bird species. Five years ago when we used Roy as a guide, Roy put us on both a male and female Resplendent Quetzal! Cheers to great birding and Pura Vida!
Fernando was wonderful! Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and great with our kiddo. He was determined to find us a quetzal and we sure did! Thanks for the amazing time.
It was amazing! Roy showed us a lot and knew how to tell sooo much! Highly recommended
Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. Bless
