Salvo was an excellent guide. He shared his vast knowledge of Mt. Etna and the surrounding area with my wife and I on this remarkable private tour. We had ample to hike up and around the rims of a few craters, take a short visit in the small town of Zafferana, and enjoy a big feast and taste some lovely wine at the beautiful Murgo vineyards!
Grazie per la bella e gradita recensione. E' stato un piacere conoscerVi. Spero di rivederla ancora Un cordiale saluto Salvo Pavone

We stopped in Catania as part of a cruise port. We met Salvo outside our ship and were whisked away for almost 7 hours to learn about Mt. Etna and Catania. Salvo was friendly and provided us much information/history of his country as we were driven up to Mt. Etna. We had the option to take up the gondolas to a further view, but it was cloudy, so we decided the views would be limited. Instead, we climbed a crater and Salvo gave us free time to explore the craters. Salvo then took us to a lava cave, where we stopped on the side of a road and walked into the cave. Had we had spelunking cables and equipment (it wasn't that kind of tour), there's the opportunity to continue further down into the cave... almost a kilometer; however, we walked in took pictures and continued on our way. We moved onto another, older volcano site, that no longer exists due to the volcano imploding upon itself centuries before Etna; however, you could still see the path the lava flow took and how it created much of the seaside communities with the cooled lava many years later. Finally, Salvo took us to his hometown of Zafferana, where we went for a full wine tasting. The atmosphere was right out of a Tuscany picture and the pours were generous and we purchased an appetizer plate, which was more like a full lunch for 2!! After the wine tasting, the sommelier gave us a tour of their winery. It made for a full day, but we loved every minute of it. Salvo was a generous host and provided us with great memories of Catania.
Thank you so much for your beautiful and detailed review, i hope to see you again soon. God bless your life a great hug. Salvo
