Incredibly sad to hear about the history of these bears…. A fabulous end to a terribly abusive start in life though - and amazing to see them doing so well in a caring and naturalised environment ❤️🩹
A fantastic experience…. Our driver was lovely and told us a bit about the sanctuary before we got there…. It’s a long bumpy road leading up to the sanctuary - but once there, we had an opportunity to look around the small gift shop and use the restroom before heading off with the guide. We saw a number of bears…. all rescued from harsh backgrounds and given a new lease of life…. A brilliant trip and highly recommended 🥰
An amazing place .... they have rescued 130 ex circus & display bears ... who are now living the best life ! Unless you have a hire car, you do need to go with a tour company, as there is no public transport there, and it is a long dirt road, which apparently Uber / Bolt wont do ! Once at the Bear Sanctuary, you join a group tour.
This was the highlight of our visit to Romania. It was heartbreaking to hear the stories of abuse these bears endured, but so heartwarming to see them so well cared for and finally safe to live out their lives. We saw many bears, juveniles and cubs as well as a pair of rescued wolves. The tour guide was informative and incredibly patient with the group (as with any group, some people are rude and disrespectful). One thing of note, this is a walking tour and you do go up a decent size hill. Appropriate footwear and some level of fitness is required. One woman had to quit the tour due to her limitations.
Out guide Marius was brilliant and so knowledgeable not only about bears but about Romanian history. Once we arrived at the bear sanctuary we met a lovely guide who was obviously so passionate about animals. The stories were completely heartbreaking about how the bears were treated prior to being rescued, but it was a joy to see these beautiful animals with meadow and forest to roam in and pools to swim and play in. We also saw two rescue wolves and a baby deer. Once we left Marius took us to some lovely view points to take photos of the city He dropped us back in town and sent us a map showing us how to get to the city walls and text us links to some great restaurants. A wonderful day with a super guide🐻 thank you!
Otilia was a fabulous and friendly driver. Whilst she was a couple of minutes late she gave us plenty of notice of that and we arrived in perfect timing. She made the trip easy with bottles of water for us and delivering us to the start with the tickets we bought through the company. Libearty was really moving. It is such a wonderful project and it was lovely to see the bears in their natural habitat getting a second chance after often horrific experiences. You can tell the staff really care about the animals and what they are doing.
The bear sanctuary itself is a must see, we loved it so much that we adopted one of the bears. Very touching story and a great guide. The driver was punctual and very polite. Picked us up early to avoid traffic. Enjoyed the ride with a nice chat. This booking is for driver only and the guide is someone else from the sanctuary. The driver got us to the front of the queue which was nice. A bit of an expensive journey but nice nonetheless.
Wonderful peaceful place and I was really moved by the Bears stories. So happy they have now found peace in this beautiful place. Please make sure though that you respect the place as a visitor and adhere to the rules so as we can all enjoy for the future as well as the Bears which is and should be the primary focus.
Had a great time at the sanctuary. The guide, Dragos, was very nice. He even bought me a bottle of water. Good conversations in the car to and from the sanctuary, and a lot of laughter!
Our driver/ guide (Dan) was excellent. He was on time, very accommodating, extremely knowledgeable and eager to share information about Romania, the bears, the sanctuary and anything else we asked of him. He guided us to the sanctuary and handed us to the sanctuary guide. He was waiting for us when we returned and made sure we had a good experience. The actual sanctuary tour guide was also fantastic and we loved the experience.
