Une excursion inoubliable : ascension en téléphérique et en bus 4x4 jusqu'à 2850 m. Le sentier de randonnée commence ici ; un arrêt fascinant sera celui consacré à des cratères éteints, des bouches éruptives et des fractures de lave. Nous continuerons jusqu'aux cratères de Barbagallo à 3000 mètres. D'ici, vous pourrez admirer les majestueux cratères du sommet. Vous visiterez la bouche effusive de l'éruption de 2002, puis descendrez le long des plages de sable jusqu'à la Montagnola, d'où vous contemplerez la Valle del Bove, une vaste dépression volcano-tectonique. Un panorama à couper le souffle que peu d'autres endroits au monde peuvent offrir. Le retour en téléphérique vous permet d'admirer une dernière fois ce paysage lunaire enchanteur, pour une marche totale d'environ 4 heures.

Itinéraire
Nous partons du refuge des Guides Alpins Etna Sud, continuons en téléphérique jusqu'à 2500 mètres puis avec un véhicule tout terrain nous atteignons 2850 mètres.
Le premier arrêt sera le point de vue de la Valle del Bove, une grande dépression volcano-tectonique en forme de fer à cheval située dans le secteur oriental de l'Etna, elle est très importante d'un point de vue volcanologique car plusieurs affleurements le long des parois. Aux beaux jours la vue est à couper le souffle.
Un arrêt très important est le cratère Barbagallo à une altitude d'environ 3000 mètres. En remontant le long des bancs de sable, vous atteindrez un canal de coulée de lave datant de l'éruption de 2002. En remontant le canal, vous arriverez à la bouche effusive de la même éruption. nous continuerons vers Torre del Filosofo (2920 mètres) le long des récentes coulées de lave encore chaudes (21-05-2023). Après la pause déjeuner, nous marcherons le long du bord du cratère Barbagallo en admirant les cratères sommitaux et toute la côte orientale de la Sicile, de Taormina à Syracuse.
Après la balade au bord du cratère Barbagallo, avant d'amorcer la descente, nous aurions à nouveau l'occasion d'admirer les cratères sommitaux de l'Etna, Central Crater et South-East Crater, avec leur inévitable panache de gaz.
Le retour en téléphérique s'effectuera le long de canaux de sable volcanique, admirant, aux beaux jours, une vue à couper le souffle, qui s'étend de la côte ionienne à l'intérieur de la Sicile.

The trek was hard for me, a couch potato, but I did it. If I could do it, you can too lol. I told my guide I was giving up and he let me rest a little and convinced me to keep going. Good hiking boots and trekking poles are a must.
An experience you cannot really put into words. The landscape is otherworldly and the emotions you experience under an active volcano are one of a kind. Because of the ongoing eruption and the sudden bad weather, we couldn’t complete the whole tour, but thankfully Clara, our wonderful guide, made sure we got the most of the experience. She was sweet, competent and attentive, and made you curious and passionate about the volcano just like an excellent teacher would do. Will definitely come back for another experience. Amazing experience hiking up around the crater field to the rumbling of the current eruption. Very knowledgable and friendly guide. Def need a degree of fitness and be prepared to come home with volcanic ash/sand everywhere! Would recommend, we loved it

Perfect excursion. The guides are very good. Important: glasses and something to cover your mouth if the volcano is active and bring something to eat for the quick stop on the excursion.
