We had a great time with our tour guide, Leandra. She had a wealth of information and was a pleasure to spend time with. The market was bustling and so many great options to try. We especially liked the eel and the mochi! What a great way to have lunch!

Our food tour of Nishiki Market led by Chika was great! We learned so much not only about the market and food we tried but also Chika was so helpful in explaining other parts of Japanese food culture and area specialties. The tour itself gave us an opportunity to try things we wouldn’t have tried on our own and we had a nice time with our small group experiencing the market together.

Chika was amazing, she showed us the most original places to see in the Nishiki Market and showed us food that we would never think of ordering ourselves! The group is small, up to 6 people but we were lucky to only have two other people with us. It was really busy in the market but the tour was very well organised. We will definitely look to book with ninja tours in the future!

This was genuinely one of the best guided tours I’ve been on. When I go to a city/country for the first time I love to take a guided tour to learn and emerge myself in the culture. And this tour provided just that. Not only did I get a super educational food guide - Sora was able to explain the history of the market, the vendors and their skills (some who had been there for more than 100 years) and also any questions I had about Kyoto in general. And the food. So much delicious food. We started at one end of Nishiki markets and had little bites and tastes from almost 10 vendors as we wandered through to the other end. I probably would have just walked past and missed most of these vendors if I wasn’t on the tour. And to miss out on them would have been so sad, they were all truly masters of their craft, and the food they made - a lot of which they sourced produce from their own family farms, was truly such a wonderful new experience for me. I definitely recommend going in with an open mind and trying all the things suggested. There was nothing crazy or scary to eat, it was just all passionately made food by people who are truly skilled at what they do. I left with an extremely full stomach and had to spend the next few hours walking it off. There’s no need to book for lunch afterwards- this was lunch! Sora was a knowledgeable and kind guide and at the end I was sent a comprehensive guide to all his favourite places to visit and things to do. This tour is well worth the money and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about Kyoto style cuisine and culture.
