Description

Save your time and BOOK THIS NOW

After having read what felt like a million reviews, referring to reddit, tracking down personal accounts, and comparing notes, I finally settled to book this tour through viator. Honestly, I wish I had saved myself the time and just booked this RIGHT AWAY. Our guide, Sergio, was exceptionally knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. My niece and nephew loved the opportunity to try cacao, chocolate, and sugarcane. Much to my surprise, sugarcane is no longer growing in the area of Florida where I grew up, near to where my family now lives, so watching my niece and nephew try sugarcane juice for the first time became a treasured moment of my own. I was hesitant to book this your because I am the only one of our group who is over-the-moon about dark chocolate, bitter flavors, and black coffee. Fortunately, EVERYONE enjoyed the tour, so I wasn't left feeling all that guilty. I would easily recommend this tour. Thank you Sergio and team. :)

Educational & Tasty!

TLDR - Definitely recommend this tour for those wishing to squeeze in some education while trying some local treats! My wife and I booked the chocolate tour through our hotel which conveniently included transportation. Sergio was our guide and you couldn’t have asked for a more engaging host - sharing interesting facts as we walked through the grounds looking at examples of the plants in their natural habitat. He went into the history of cacao, vanilla, coffee, and sugar cane in Central and South America and also specifically, Costa Rica. Of course, the best part was the tasting which included raw coca beans, fresh fruits dipped in chocolate, traditional maya "hot chocolate" but also some coffee and sugar cane beverages! Highly recommend fitting this tour into your itinerary for something a bit different and fun!

Amazing

Wow! This tour was one of the best things we did in Costa Rica! Brian is such a fantastic teacher and has a wealth of knowledge about the plants, animals, ecosystem you name it, he can tell you about it! The tour was very laid back while still being captivating. The chocolate tastings, drinks, and food was incredible. Do this tour!!

Great value! Generous tastings

Our family of four squeezed this chocolate tour into our last morning in Manuel Antonio and I’m so glad we did. Juan & his great sense of humor made the tour super educational and tailored to our group. He took extra time to explain things to our young kids (8 & 5) too. While it’s failed a chocolate tour, we saw & experienced so much more. The permaculture farm is growing cacao, vanilla, coffee, and cinnamon trees. We got to see & learn about all of these various plants. The tour then took us to an area where we discussed how cacao beans are processed into chocoate, how to make Mezoamerica’s first “hot chocolate” drink, how to make a tasty spiced fruit salad with chocolate sauce, the perfect way to brew coffee, and even an alcoholic lemonade made with cacique (the Costa Rican alcohol). These all came with delicious samples to taste. It was a total surprise (probably due to my oversight) but apparently our tour booking through TripAdvisor also got us a meal following the tour. We were dropped off at a local hotel/restaurant for a generous lunch with fruit smoothies. The rest of the tour attendees were driven back to their accommodations and then the driver came back to collect us & return to our hotel. It was a lovely morning and perfect way to wrap up our trip. Thank you Juan!

Wow — thank you so much for this incredible review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you and your family had such a memorable experience on your last morning in Manuel Antonio. Juan will be so happy to know that his sense of humor and personalized attention, especially with your little ones, made the tour extra special for you. It’s great to know you appreciated not just the chocolate experience, but the full depth of what our permaculture farm offers — from cacao and vanilla to coffee and cinnamon. We love sharing the origins and processes behind these amazing plants, and of course, tasting along the way always makes it even better! We’re also glad the included lunch came as a happy surprise and helped you end your Costa Rica trip on a delicious note. 😊 Thank you again for joining us and for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback. Wishing you and your family all the best — and we hope to see you again someday for more sweet memories! Warm regards,

Great experience. Great education. Great chocolate. We not only learned about chocolate, but of the other native plants used in mainstream manufacturing.

Chocolate and Coffee Tour from Manuel Antonio to Quepos

I really enjoyed our chocolate and coffee tour with Jose as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the entire process and gave us an informative walk through the plantation. He answered any questions anyone had and even cracked multiple jokes to keep the spirits high during the experience. Overall was fun and something to do around Quepos. Driver also made multiple stops for us to see wildlife during the tour, amazing monkeys.
