August 3, 2026 Today, the three of us—including Andrew (10)—experienced one of the most authentic parts of Sicily: a traditional pescaturismo fishing excursion. Instead of fishing with rods, our captain showed us how local fishermen harvest their catch by pulling in a fishing net that had been set earlier. It was fascinating to see what the sea had provided. Together we caught spider fish, flatfish, cuttlefish, shrimp, striped seabream (mormora), and several other local fish. Before lunch, we anchored in a beautiful cove and spent time snorkeling in the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters. It was the perfect way to cool off and enjoy the coastline before returning to the boat. The best part came afterward. Our captain transformed the morning’s catch into an unforgettable lunch. We started with bruschetta drizzled with his grandmother’s homemade olive oil and fresh anchovies. Next came homemade pasta with tuna, followed by swordfish and fennel in a rich red sauce. To finish, he simply grilled the fish we had caught that morning. It wasn’t just a meal—it was a lesson in Sicilian tradition, hospitality, and the joy of sharing food that came directly from the sea. Watching Andrew experience the entire process, from catching the fish to enjoying them at the table, made this one of the highlights of our trip. I love how this day combined adventure, learning, swimming, and incredible food. Years from now, it’s the kind of experience your family will likely remember as “the day we became Sicilian fishermen for a morning.”

A truly unique experience: my daughter is still talking about it after 3 days. Giovanni is a fantastic person and an excellent cook. It was also truly remarkable to have eaten the catch directly on board.

Giovanni is an excellent host; he contacted us before departure to ensure everything was okay, then, on board, he acted as captain, chef, and entertainer. It was a wonderful experience, and we recommend it especially for families with children.
