Défenseur de la communauté noire et du droit de vote des femmes, Du Bois passa une grande partie de sa vie et de sa carrière axées sur le panafricanisme et devint organisateur de plusieurs congrès panafricains menant la charge de libérer de nombreuses colonies africaines du contrôle européen. Pendant son séjour au Ghana, pays où il était un champion de l'indépendance, Du Bois a planifié son projet final, l'Encyclopedia Africana. De style similaire à l'Encyclopedia Britannica, l'Encyclopedia Africana proposée était une entreprise ambitieuse qui, Du Bois l'espérait, relierait toute la diaspora africaine. Bien que Du Bois soit mort en 1963 sans avoir terminé l'Encyclopedia Africana, ses contributions à l'expérience afro-américaine en tant qu'historien, militant des droits civiques, écrivain, sociologue et intellectuel sont vastes. Le Musée célèbre la vie influente qu'il a vécue, son militantisme et les travaux savants qui continuent de servir de références essentielles concernant le racisme en Amérique.
Dédié à la mémoire de feu Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, le parc commémoratif a été construit sur un ancien terrain de Polo britannique où l’indépendance du Ghana a été déclarée en 1957. Le Mausolée est un magnifique monument en marbre et la dernière demeure du premier Président du Ghana et de son épouse, Fathia Nkrumah.

We had a wonderful time exploring Accra with Eben De TourGuide from EAA Tours Ghana. From the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to Black Star Square, Independence Square, the Arts Centre, and the vibrant streets of Accra, every stop was interesting and full of history and culture. This was really well worth the money! Eben picked me up from my hotel at 9 am and dropped me back off at 5 pm. The tour was thorough, amazingly in depth, and insightful. I also felt completely safe as a solo woman traveler. After this tour, I ended up booking Eben for two more things while I was in Ghana and they didn’t disappoint either.

Eben with EAA tours was literally a dream! We came to Ghana as a family of 4. Two adults, a 6yr old, and a 16M old baby. Eben came to pick us up right at our Airbnb, had a truck big enough for our car seat, and did a phenomenal job curating a tour that was fit for our family makeup. The pace was just right. My 6yr old had a ball! My husband who is a history buff was so engaged. We didn’t feel overly tired at the end even though we managed to make it to 5 different places. Eben is a wealth of knowledge, like even just the car ride from destination to destination was informative. He had all the history, context, and fun facts for us as we navigated the city of Accra. My daughter and I took this tour on our last day in Ghana. Isaiah was a great tour guide. We appreciated him taking us around Accra and telling us about the history and culture.
