Iglesia católica de estilo neogótico, su construcción comenzó en 1884. La basílica surge para honrar la consagración del Ecuador al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, realizada por orden del entonces presidente Gabriel García Moreno. En la basílica destacan sus torres con alto potencial turístico e increíbles vistas de la ciudad, el Panteón Nacional de Jefes de Estado, catacumbas, 3 capillas y el convento de los Oblatos.
También conocida por los quiteños como la Plaza Grande, es la plaza principal del Centro Histórico, representa un centro político, simbólico e histórico de la ciudad. En los alrededores de esta histórica plaza podemos encontrar el Palacio de Carondelet o Palacio de Gobierno, la Catedral de Quito, el Palacio Arzobispal y la Municipalidad de la ciudad. Además, podemos ver el monumento a la independencia en el centro de la plaza.
La Compañía de Jesús es uno de los templos católicos más importantes de América Latina. Su fachada tallada en piedra volcánica y su interior revestido en pan de oro la convierten en una obra representativa del barroco y el sincretismo. El templo pertenece a la orden de los jesuitas y su construcción se inició en 1605. Además, el templo atesora pinturas y obras artísticas únicas en el mundo.
La escultura ubicada en lo alto de la Loma del Panecillo corresponde a una representación de la Virgen de Legarda o Virgen Apocalíptica, obra quiteña del siglo XVIII. Fue colocado en 1975, tiene 41 metros de altura y actualmente es uno de los monumentos más altos del mundo. Está realizada en aluminio y asentada sobre una base de piedra. Asimismo, el cerro del Panecillo es uno de los miradores naturales con más encanto.
El Teleférico de Quito es uno de los telesillas más altos de Sudamérica, llevándote desde la ciudad hasta casi 4.000 metros (13.000 pies) sobre el nivel del mar en las faldas del Volcán Pichincha. En solo 18 minutos, disfrutarás de impresionantes vistas panorámicas de la capital, los valles circundantes y, en días despejados, varios picos a lo largo de la Avenida de los Volcanes. Favourite part of the day trip was at the middle of the earth and also visiting the various churches in Quito - loved the cultural experience - Pedro shared a lot of historical and interesting facts which truly enriched the experience. He’s very knowledgeable, spoke really well in English and was fun to hang out with! Travellers, bring a jacket and wear sensible shoes as it can get quite windy and hilly.
