Mariam, la hija del rey Ashot I, prometió construir 30 iglesias en honor a su difunto esposo. Mantuvo su promesa durante toda su vida. Uno de ellos, Sevanavank, fue construido en 874. Fundada en el siglo IV, Sevanavank experimentó su desarrollo en el siglo IX. Aparte de las dos iglesias en pie, el khachkar único del siglo XVII, con sus muchas escenas bíblicas, merece especial atención. El nombre de la capital, Ereván, se registró por primera vez en la cúpula de Sevanavank.
El primer lugar que visitaremos es el lago Sevan, la belleza de Armenia. Al estar a 1900 metros sobre el nivel del mar, Sevan es el segundo lago más alto del mundo con un suministro de agua dulce. Seván, de origen volcánico, está rodeado de cordilleras divididas en dos partes y una gran península. Lake Sevan goza de gran popularidad entre los turistas tanto por la recreación activa como pasiva. Con una profundidad máxima de 83 metros, Seván es el único de los tres lagos armenios históricos ubicados en el territorio de la República de Armenia.
Aunque es costumbre en Armenia utilizar principalmente piedras de toba o basalto para la construcción, para el monasterio de Haghartsin se utilizaron dos tipos de piedras: travertino y basalto. Construido en piedra blanca, este monasterio ha tenido su propio lugar en la cultura y la educación armenias desde el siglo X. El monasterio había sido construido durante unos tres siglos, en el hermoso valle de los bosques de Tavush, en el corazón del bosque. Aquí también se encuentra el refectorio del monasterio, que se considera una obra maestra de la arquitectura. Además de las estructuras reales, también hay un mausoleo real aquí. Por cierto, muy sabrosa Gata se vende cerca de aquí.
Uno de los centros espirituales y educativos más famosos de la Armenia medieval es Goshavank, que recibió su nombre del polifacético clérigo y científico Mkhitar Gosh. La colección de leyes creadas por él se considera excepcional para su época, y fue utilizada en muchas legislaciones del mundo hasta el día de hoy. El complejo del monasterio, compuesto por cinco iglesias, tres capillas, un vestíbulo y un refectorio, no dejará indiferente a ningún turista curioso. El monasterio se encuentra en el pueblo de Gosh del mismo nombre. Merece especial atención el khachkar bordado del siglo XIII, perteneciente al maestro Poghos.
Durante la visita guiada a Ijevan Wine and Brandy Factory, explorará las naves de producción donde se elaboran vinos y brandies de calidad a partir de variedades de uva locales. Aprenda sobre el fascinante proceso: desde la selección y fermentación de la uva hasta el envejecimiento y el embotellado. Awesome full-day tour, car (minivan) in perfect conditions, WiFi onboard (!), on time at each point of stop/restart, lunch in an offline venue (Restart Boutique Hotel, quiet/peaceful/great food/private), good driver, gorgeous Armenian’s landscapes and historical masterpieces. On top of all that, however, one of the best guide in the planet, who managed to interact, involve, teach, share, emphasize her knowledge and professionalism. Very scenic, cool weather. Good mix of monastry and nature. I did in the midst of hot july month and this was a good escape from the burning sun. It is around 20 degrees most of the time, need a light jacket when the wind blow.
It was a wonderful day trip. Sambad knows a lot and lead an interesting tour. We learned a lot about Armenia.

A long but great day! Our guide Ana was excellent, and so was the driver. I thought that the time allocated to each of the monasteries was perfect: enough to explore everything at a reasonable pace, but not too long either (in our group everyone more or less naturally finished exploring around the meeting time at each location).
