We had the great fortune of having one of the company's owners, Eric, as our guide. He was right on time and gave us a lot of information about the park on the way up the mountain. The lodge's description of the tour stated a bike ride down the mountain from the main parking lot. Eric told us that they don't do that anymore, but allowed my son and I to do it while my wife and daughter drove down in the following truck. From there, he was able to coax my daughter to bike the road even though she was uncomfortable with the bikes. He gave us all the time we needed and the route provided terrific views of the park that we otherwise would not have seen. He also allowed us to stay out for an extra hour or so since we were slower than other adult groups. We couldn't be happier with the tour.
Cecil & Andres were our guides for the day and they were awesome. So kind and considerate and really wanted to make our experience the best! I went with my two boys and they helped us have a great time and stay safe while doing it. We really had one of the best days of our lives! Eric made a custom day for us, and it turned out to be just perfect!
This was a great excursion! The guide and driver were very friendly and helpful the whole time. It is a lot of time in the car, but the biking is a lot of fun and it is amazing to be out in Cotopaxi National park! When we went there were only 4 of us in the group so the excursion was very personalized and more intimate, and we hardly saw anyone else in the park all day. You can choose how much you want to bike throughout which is also nice!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re really happy to hear you enjoyed the experience in Cotopaxi National Park—it truly is a special place to ride. We’re glad our team made you feel comfortable and that the small group created a more personalized and intimate adventure. It’s great to know you appreciated the flexibility of the ride as well—that’s exactly the kind of experience we aim to deliver!
We had a great day biking down Cotopaxi today. Our guide Andreas was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. We were lucky to be the only people on the tour today and he took the tour at a pace that was comfortable for us, and he made sure we got safely down the volcano. Gabriel, our driver was also great and was always on handheld needed. A great day trip from Quito, highly recommend.
We had an amazing time with Andres as our tour guide. He always made sure we were well informed about the obstacles ahead since we are not experienced mountain bikers. We had an e-bike which made the ride much more enjoyable. Nothing beats riding in the prairie with wild horses, Cotopaxi, Ruminahui, and Pucara del Salitre surrounding you. Erik and Mateo, the owners, were wonderful as well.
Premium Cotopaxi -Full Day Hike & Bike Trip The views of Cotopaxi and the mountain biking were absolutely wonderful! We were so lucky that most of the day was either cloud-free or just partly cloudy; however, as is often the case in the mountains, the clouds rolled in during the mid-afternoon. Still, it was a beautiful day overall! I very seldom write negative reviews, yet I believe travelers should submit honest reviews. Travelers' notes: Dutchman Adventures took over from Biking Dutchman a few years back, so not all the reviews on TripAdvisor reflect the current owner, Dutchman Adventures. The bikes weren't exactly premium or quality, as they’re a bit older. My bike had some pretty worn tires, and one guest mentioned they wouldn’t ride a bike in such condition. Also, the seats are hard and narrow, so make sure to wear padded cycling shorts! The gears worked, but only just. The lunch is a tuna fish sandwich. It’s a bit puzzling how they advertise the cycling distance as 31 kilometers (19 miles) when it was only 18 kilometers (11 miles). They run this tour on Mondays. In Quito, the 4x4's license plate isn't allowed during certain hours, so we first get picked up in a car and then transferred to the 4x4 at a gas station. It is a little confusing why they would run a tour on days they cannot enter the city zone. Next year, we will look for a different tour company.
Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few points from your review. Our bikes are used regularly for cycling tours and, as such, may show some signs of wear like minor scratches. However, we place great emphasis on regular maintenance to ensure they are always in safe and reliable condition. In addition, we always carry a spare bike on our tours to ensure that any unforeseen issues can be resolved quickly and allow our guests to continue enjoying the experience without disruption. Regarding transportation, we do indeed offer private transportation for our guests. On the day of your tour, we had multiple groups departing from various locations in Quito. To streamline the process and avoid long delays due to morning traffic, we arranged for guests to meet at a convenient location outside the city. This allows us to start the tour more efficiently and comfortably for everyone. In terms of cycling distance, we offer flexibility depending on the group’s preferences. While our standard route typically covers a set distance, we are happy to extend the ride—often up to or beyond 31 km—upon request. We do our best to tailor the experience to the interests and fitness levels of our guests. It’s also worth noting that we do not advertise a fixed number of kilometers on our website, which can be found here: https://www.dutchmanadventure.com/oneday/cotopaxi. Lastly, we’d like to clarify that Dutchman Adventure and Biking Dutchman are indeed the same company. We have recently rebranded to better reflect our expanded offerings, which now go beyond just biking tours to include a wider range of adventures across Ecuador. We hope this explanation is helpful and thank you again for your feedback, which helps us continue improving our services. Warm regards, The Dutchman Adventure Team
We had a brilliant time on the tour. We are a family of 3 with a 14 year old, plus a friend. All from UK. The bikes were all good quality and well kept. Both Andre's and Ceaser were fantastic. Really informative and created a cycle route that really allowed us to experience the area. The weather was wet, but that did not stop us having so much fun. Thank you so much Andre's for looking after us and showing us how amazing Cotopaxi was. Highly recommend.
Here at Dutchman Adventure, we work to provide the best experiences for all our customers. We are happy to hear that we have met your expectations and that the family was able to enjoy a unique experience at Cotopaxi!
Great cycle, epic views and lovely tracks. We started at snow level at almost 12,000 feet, rode a short distance on the car track and then off road on some single/double width tracks. I’d rate them as between blue and red skill level from a UK perspective. Our guide Andreas looked after us well, always explained what was coming up, checked to see that the speed and conditions were ok, nice guy and we felt safe with him. Also really nice to know that Patricio the driver was never far away with the support vehicle (very professional driver, the roads aren’t easy to navigate). The weather turned to heavy rain while we were out so we couldn’t cross the river as per the original plan, we were offered some alternative routes and we decided to cut the route short and cycled to some ancient Inca ruins instead. The route was mostly downhill with some short flat and uphill sections. We hired e bikes (that’s what we’ve got at home, we’re 60 and were a bit worried about the altitude!). I was pretty breathless but the e bike meant I could still enjoy it. The bikes were basic but well maintained and safe, I’d have loved a set of mudguards - expect to get dirty! Helmets and gloves were provided. We did two trips (the other was into the Mindo Cloud Forest), both very enjoyable. I’d recommend them.
Thank you for your kind words and for choosing to explore Ecuador with us—not just once, but twice! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed both the high-altitude adventure and the Cloud Forest ride. Andreas and Patricio will be delighted to know you felt well taken care of. Riding at altitude is no small feat, and we’re glad the e-bikes helped you fully enjoy the experience. Mudguards noted—we appreciate the feedback! Wishing you many more great rides ahead, and we’d love to welcome you back anytime.
Andres and Caesar were wonderful hosts. They tailored the ride for both my husband and I Great because we are at different skill levels. Andres took us to unique areas we’d have never found on our own. They picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel. We also felt safe the entire time.
What a lovely review. I am so happy you and your husband had such a great time! Stay safe and I wish you all the best!
We had a fantastic day with Andreas visiting El chaquiñan & Papallacta. I would 100% recommend this tour, the mountain biking was great fun and fine with altitude for tourists from the Uk. Andreas was an amazing guide who gave us fantastic information and facilitated a great day. We were picked up and dropped off from our hotel, which was great. Thank you!
