Wow!!! This was one of the highlights of our two week tour of Sri Lanka!! What a wonderful experience ! The setting was perfect, the help and guidance from Shyama were superb and the end result was absolutely delicious (even though I say so myself!). If you get the chance to do this, grab it as we highly highly recommend this authentic, warm and educational experience!
What a great experience all round - a lovely surprise really! Wasu is an entertaining and informative guide at the local market where you get to experience all the sights and sounds while choosing ingredients for the meal ahead. Then there is the twisting turning road to the house and down the back, through the garden to the outside kitchen where Sharma works her magic with her homestyle cooking class. Easy, entertaining, informative and delicious.
Both Udaya and Shyama were excellent. Very patient with our lack of knowledge about Sri Lankan food and cooking. We would thoroughly recommend this experience.
What an entertaining, educational and immersive experience we had, to eventually enjoy the taste and flavours of all the dishes we helped prepare. A highly recommended activity.
This was the most enjoyable experience of our trip. We had a hands on cooking lesson and then enjoyed all the curries we made. Dessert was delicious pancakes filled with caramelised coconut. The family was very hospitable and sent a link for the recipes. Highly recommended.
We started the experience with a tour of the food market to select the vegetables to cook and we was made to feel so welcome by our hosts. It was a really great experience to learn about the different vegetables of Sri Lanka and be made to feel like a local! Once we arrived back to the family home, everything was well prepped for us to start cooking. We learnt about so many different foods and couldn’t finish the meal as there was so much food! It was a really great experience from start to finish and one of the many highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka, thank you!
We had an amazing experience with the family! We started at the local market, where we could choose our own vegetables, while everything else had already been prepared. I found this very relaxing, as we could focus entirely on the cooking rather than the preparations. From very informative stories about how food is prepared in Sri Lanka and which spices are used, to watching everything come together into delicious dishes and, of course, enjoying our own creations. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone travelling through Sri Lanka who is looking for something unique and wants to experience the local culture through food.
We absolutely loved our cooking class experience. The family who run this are so warm and friendly and truly create a memorable evening. We loved getting to experience the local markets, learn all about the vegetables and then pick out what we wanted to cook! Their outdoor home kitchen is setup so beautifully and we learnt so much about srilankan food. The feast we made was some of the best we’d had in srilanka and we’d highly recommend this experience to anyone travelling in Kandy! Thank you for having us!
Kind people, delicious food and super edducational
After spending a week in Sri Lanka, one of the highlights of my trip so far has been experiencing authentic Sri Lankan cooking—from the local market to the plate. The husband takes you on an engaging tour of the market, helping you select the ingredients while explaining each vegetable, spice, and local product in detail. It offers a wonderful insight into the fresh produce and culinary traditions that make Sri Lankan cuisine so special. After the market visit, you head to their beautiful and tranquil outdoor kitchen, where the wife teaches you how to prepare and cook traditional Sri Lankan dishes from scratch. The food was some of the best Sri Lankan cuisine I’ve tasted since arriving, but what made the experience truly memorable was their warm hospitality, extensive knowledge, and genuine passion for sharing their culture. An unforgettable experience and undoubtedly one of the highlights of my time in Sri Lanka so far. 🇱🇰❤️
