We spent 4 incredible days on the Inca Trail with our family, guided by Aiben and Elias (El rayo). It was an amazing experience, both physically and humanly 💓 AB Expeditions was outstanding: the whole team was professional, caring, and incredibly attentive. Our guides were exceptional, with excellent knowledge of the trail, history, and culture, and always gave us clear and helpful guidance. Special mention also to the chef and porters: the food was absolutely delicious 👨🏻🍳 and the porters also did an incredible job, carrying all the equipment and setting up our tents everyday. A huge thank you to the entire team, and especially to Aiben and Elias, for making this adventure so special. I highly recommend AB Expeditions!
Amazing experience for my wife and I! Ivan and Elias were special guides… so helpful when the weather turned or we needed help. Informative on the history of the trail and archaeological sites, but more important, we’re on the ball to make sure we had a lifetime experience! The porters and cooking staff were superhuman, all pulling the rope the same direction to make for a fantastic time. Thank you!!
The team was friendly, and supportive. Our guide Gio was extremely knowledgeable about the local history, culture, and landscape. The porters did a great job and the food was amazing. Thank you, Moises, Melchor, Vidal, Willy, Valentin, Santos and Gio!
Overall top marks across the board and especially thanks to Oscar our guide and Adriel and team for looking after us. * The five day INCA TRAIL hike was a great choice allowing us to walk in virtually isolation without meeting many other walkers outside of lunch and the campsites. This was understood quickly by Oscar as important for us and he actively sought to keep us alone. He did superbly. * The scenery of the Inca Trail was world class, only comparable to the Alps in France or Switzerland or the Canadian Rockies imho. * Ab Expeditions Teams on the ground were very good * Our guide, Oscar, was very good - very knowledgeable, thoughtful and engaging. We felt like friends very quickly. As above he kept us alone. He did some things to make it feel super special which we will always remember- we could not as for more. * Adriel and team were incredible. The food was amazing given the environment within which the meals were prepared. We ate well at every meal and were astounded at the quality, taste and variety of the dishes. The desserts were unreal and the cake on day four was WOW!!! * A point to note is the promised hot shower on night one was a mere trickle. I wouldn’t recommend that in the future to other people, the basin of hot water provided by the team was a better option. * The hotel in MP could have been better. * The admin and back office team were very responsive - on a number of occasions where communication was required, the response was very quick and on point so any requests were completed quickly. Our only real issue was when the train was late, what the team did was really superb, even contacting our Airbnb and sending a manager to meet us to deliver our bags - wow! How to turn a negative ( late train ) into a positive experience. * The transfers were good - safe and on time. And the return train was so late (>3 hours) and the driver stayed around and was a really good bloke!
One of the best experiences of my life. I can not fault AB at all. Our guide, Oscar, went above and beyond creating extra special experiences for us, sharing his vast knowledge of Inca culture and laughing and joking with us as if we’d always been friends. Our cook, Adriel, cooked up the most amazing feasts for every meal (how he managed this on a simple gas burner I don’t know!). We actually did the 5 day trek which I would totally recommend as it means you leave the campsite a little later and virtually have the trail to yourself.
Doing the Inca Trail with AB Expeditions was truly a wonderful experience. Not only for learning about the wonderful history of the Incas and what they were capable of creating for the world through this company's guide, but the experience itself of being part of a group of people for 4 days changed my life when seeing how 11 porters, 1 cook (Willian), and a great guide, Aiven. They exceeded my expectations. The dynamic was extremely organized day by day, the food was delicious and first-class, and the guide was a 100 percent professional. He had all his hikers very well analyzed and served them for any need we had. Personally, for me, it was a great challenge, and Aiven never once took his attention off me or any of my companions on this expedition. Even though I walked with trekking poles, he knew that in many instances I ended up needing his arm as my cane. He educated us on how we had to take on the daily challenges with great caution, and he told us what the plan was every day. Do not miss out on a life experience that you will carry in your soul forever. AB Expeditions treated us as if we were family. The beautiful landscapes that take your breath away and let you be transported to the times of the Incas. Arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate was the most beautiful thing, as was being able to experience the beauty of this wonderful and unique place in the world in a very intimate way. AB Expeditions, my most sincere congratulations for the great experience and for leaving the great INKA strength tattooed on my soul.
Fantastic experience; besides seeing Machu Picchu, we saw many other wonderful sites. The guide Miguel is legendary!!! He managed to create a little family in just a few days, friendly, always smiling. We ate well and the tents were warm and cozy. There are a lot of stairs; if you are not slightly fit, don't do it, otherwise it becomes a torture and not a pleasure...
This was an extremely challenging hike and the reason why my mom and I finished was because of our amazing guide Ivan and the porters. The whole crew is what made this possible. All we did was walk but they were the ones that made the whole operation possible. It’s so inspiring and incredible to see how hard they work day after day to make us comfortable. Ivan is more than a guide for us. He is our freind and is truly the most compassionate, patient, and knowledgeable guide we have ever had. We’re blessed to have been a part of his group. Another reason why we were able to survive this trail was because of the nutritious food. William is a genius in the kitchen and we appreciate all his creativity and dedication. He is so sweet and humble about what he creates. We love AB expeditions!!!!
Could not recommend doing the Inca Trail with AB Expeditions more. Our tour guide, Yiyo, was the perfect guide - funny, smart, encouraging, and a great story teller. We had 14 porters (Santos, Pedro, Wilbur, Wilfredo, Albino, Segundo, Segundino, and seven other amazing porters) and 2 chefs (Yuri and the sus chef, Lionel) that made the trip unforgettable and incredibly doable. Yuri and Lionel were very accommodating with food allergies and dietary restrictions for every meal. Albino woke us every morning with hot Coca Tea, which is by far the best way to start any day. I'm not sure if you can request a tour guide, but if you can, you should ABSOLUTELY request Yiyo. This hike is very doable if you're in good shape; however, if you have bad asthma (like me), bring your inhaler and backup inhalers. The altitude and exertion are incredibly difficult with asthma.
An excellent experience, the whole team, the organization, the porters and the guides help make it a very enjoyable adventure. The campsites were very well prepared and equipped to be able to rest well. All the meals were excellent. The organization of the pickup and the return was also very good, without any issues. Yiyo and Sharon provided us with a lot of help and support throughout the trek, allowing everyone to be able to enjoy it. The only thing to highlight would be the date of the briefing, personally having it the day before less than 12 hours before starting the trip leaves little time if anything extra needs to be prepared that is communicated in the briefing itself. And the organization and information for Waynapicchu is not very clear on the website or at the time of booking it, it is very tight on time with the rest of the tour with Machu Picchu as well as Aguas Calientes. In general an experience that is totally worth it.
