Excursión a Rainbow Mountain Palcoyo desde Cusco
Descripción
Pasaremos por su alojamiento donde quiera que se aloje, preferiblemente dentro del centro histórico de la ciudad de Cusco, el recojo comienza aproximadamente a las 4 :00 am. Luego nos dirigiremos al sur del Cusco , al pueblo de Cusipata donde tendremos nuestra primera parada para desayunar. Antes de llegar al pueblo de Palccoyo haremos una parada para tomar algunas fotos del atractivo del puente colonial y el puente Inca. Al llegar a la Montaña Palccoyo (4.900 msnm), tendremos tiempo libre para fotografiar y disfrutar del lugar. También podremos observar parte del Nevado Ausangate. Regresaremos al estacionamiento para regresar a Cusipata donde almorzaremos y finalmente regresaremos a la ciudad del Cusco (llegada aproximadamente a las 18 : 00 hrs), nuestra movilidad los dejará a una cuadra de la Plaza de Armas (Plaza Regocijo )

I struggled with this review. On the one hand, Palccoyo is terrific - very few people, spectacular views, and as easy as hiking could be at 16K feet. I'm glad we saw it. I also thought paying $66 for two people, plus around $6 each for admission, was very reasonable given the length of the van ride (4.5 hours each way) and since both breakfast and lunch were included (both at the same spot, both mediocre at best). On the other hand, Rachel (the guide) was terrible. This was advertised to be an English/Spanish tour ... she quickly realized I was one of only 2 or 3 that did not speak Spanish, and aside from one piece of instruction early on, I guess she figured it wasn't worth her time and effort to translate, as she spoke to the group only in Spanish. Not that she spoke a lot - there was NO information given about the site, about when we had to return to the van once we were at the site, to point out interesting sites along the way, etc. The only time during the entire 9 hour ride she spoke, was to notify us we were about to stop to eat in two minutes. Once we got to the site, we were on our own to walk around - no interpretive signs explaining anything, and certainly no information from her. If you consider the price you are paying, to be JUST for the transportation there and back, along with a quick bite to eat, you'll probably enjoy the day much more than if you are expecting any sort of guide to lead you along or provide you helpful information.
Punctual pickup, decent van, and a safe driver on bumpy roads. The walk itself is short and manageable for most fitness levels. Oxygen was available in the van just in case, which gave peace of mind. Not as crowded as the classic Rainbow Mountain, making the experience much more enjoyable.
Everything perfect except for the very early pickup time of 4:10, highly recommended to go up to the stone forest

The colors are real, the altitude is high, and the hike is short and flat. Most of your day is spent driving, but the landscape at the top is completely worth the long van ride.

The overall experience was fantastic. Arnaldo the driver picked us up and did a great job driving. Edward the guide was very informative, friendly and took great care of us, especially due to the snowy environment. A marvelous event to remember.
Tour bus arrived on time. Meals provided were great. Tour guide, Wilfredo, was accommodating and didn’t rush the hike.
A few days before the date of our tour contracted the travel agency contacted to confirm and guide about our tour. On the day of the tour, 5min before arriving at my hotel, the guide Rodrigo called me to warn that he was coming to pick us up at the time of the tour. Everything went very well on the journey, the breakfast and lunch included, as well as in Palcoyo, which is beautiful. Rodrigo gave us all the necessary attention. We like it a lot.

Pick up was really messy. Buffet during lunch was clearly unhygienic with flies on the fresh salad visible. When I told Pablo the guide, he made sure this specific salad was replaced, but the flies where everywhere. It is no surprise to me that me and my friends got food poisening, even though we tried to avoid the salad. The rest of the tour was well organised.
