Was unable to access ticket ended up having to buy another with the vendor which was cheaper. I probably won’t do any more outings with viator
If you book from the official website, you need to specify a time. I had not decided when to visit the monastery, as I was planning to join a two-day, one-night tour from Charles de Gaulle airport. I did some research and found that the available hours were first thing in the morning and then after 1500-1600. It was a busy summer season, so if the roads were busy, it could have taken six hours. When I bought from several travel agencies, I found that there were no time restrictions (dates only). I won't name the company, but please look it up. In the end, I decided to visit France at night (2000-2400) on the day of my arrival, so I decided to visit first thing in the morning the next day.
The booking worked perfectly. Unfortunately, there was a long line at the abbey and nothing went forward. After about 1 hour it turned out that there is a security problem and it is not foreseeable if and when the abbey will be opened. So we left after a total of 2 hours of unfinished business. Better information on the ground would be desirable. So many more people have come who have not come in. Many have completed a long walk (about 5-6 km).
It was terrible. I showed up on the date and time as instructed and was then told that the voucher was no good. I was told that I should have received tickets by email the day before, but no email came. I tried to call someone at the time, but no one answered. In the end, I did not get to see the event because the site did not have any extra to sell. This means that the 5 hour driving we did to go to (and return from) this event was wasted. I hope to get a refund, but even after 10 hours from the event; I still have not heard back from anyone. We will see. So disappointing.
This place is absolutely remarkable! A must see! You can stare right at it and still not believe that is real.
Very nice. Lots of walking but lovely the whole way We went later and had dinner at a nearby restaurant.
