Good shoes and appropriate jackets are a must! Despite the rain we got to see a number of cute kitties and Bardi was a knowledgeable, engaging, cat-loving guide. The cat cafe was lovely and we got a local’s perspective on the town. We saw places we never would have seen otherwise and learned stories and a little bit of history. It’s not just about cats!
Our guide was informative and easily adapted to making changes in our itinerary. This was a great introduction to the city and the country.
Superb fun way to learn some Reykjavik history and folklore, with a fabulous feline focus. Guide Kristin was engaging, knowledgeable, and even mindful and respectful of a slower walking pace for one of the tour participants. She gave us a wonderful local family perspective, and suggestions of museums and other places to walk. Cat people, this is what you need. We saw a gorgeous shop cat, a neighborhood cat, and three sweet rescues at the Cat Cafe. You may see more. But it’s not the ‘number of cats you see,’ it’s the uniqueness of the activity. We had one day here prior to a cruise, and this was an excellent way to spend a couple hours.
I booked the tour after so many great reviews and was very disappointed. There is no way this tour is worth $100CAD we paid. We walked around seeing cats that we could find ourselves in various shops/on the street. The cat cafe being in the middle of the tour also didn’t make sense as we couldn’t even stay and enjoy the cafe - we had our drinks and then quickly left. Our guide stefan didn’t seem overly enthusiastic and every cat story we heard was almost identical ( the cat lives in a home where the owner bought a dog and now the cat gets away from the dog by sleeping/visiting the shop…).
Getting to know the cats in the area was fun with some insights on the Icelandic peoples’ relationship with cats. Walking around looking for them and spotting them is such a delight. The tour is also peppered with some information of the city. We had quite a day meeting so many cats (it was a clear sunny day on July 3rd). Reykjavik is a city with surprises, didn’t realize that cats (they have owners and not strays) are free to roam about in town! If Istanbul is too far, Reykjavík is a great alternative to see them (wandering around or hanging around in shops!)
Fun and insightful into Reykjavik’s intersection of local community and culture with downtown’s famous cats. My guide, Stefan, was friendly and engaging and made me feel like I was a local
I was fortunate enough to be the only person in the group and Bardi gave me the grand tour! You don't have to be a cat lover to thoroughly enjoy this tour as Bardi gave a lot of history of Iceland along with some Saga stories and folklore. Bardi made not only the Cats of Reykjavik come alive but the entire city with tales of folklore and famous people. Meeting the cats and their shop owners was not only fun but really personalized the city. Watching other visitors react when they spotted a cat was also entertaining. These cats are celebrities in their own right (and all have Instagrams, some with as many as 78,000 worldwide followers!) Most impressive was watching Bardi assist a group of travelers who spoke Spanish and needed some information. Instead of directing them to call the company, as many people would, Bardi took it upon himself to seamlessly switch from English to Spanish and personally get the information the group wanted. He absolutely went above and beyond. You can tell he loves what he does and it shows. His tour is informative, humorous, entertaining and memorable. I highly recommend this tour and if you are really lucky, Bardi will be your tour guide.
Stephan was a great guide to all the famous cats in Reykjavik. We toured all the hangout spots and got to see a lot of local businesses. Lots of fun. A unique experience. Highly recommend.
Stefan was the best! We learned so much about Iceland lore and we got to pet all the cats (every cat lover’s dream)! The cat cafe was adorable too—and yummy! Thank you Stefan and the cats of Reykjavik!
Great introduction to Reykjavík. The tour showed us some parts of town we otherwise wouldn’t have seen. The cat aspect got my (sometimes) jaded teenagers interested in exploring the city, and we all enjoyed meeting friendly shop cats. Stefan was an attentive guide who took his cues off of the group.
