The stops on the trip were good. Nice sites. We left Whitehorse about 9:10am. By the time we got to Carcross it was about 11am. We asked if it was better to eat in Carcross or wait until Skagway, but we weren’t told ahead of time how many people would be in Skagway. We got there around 1pm and there were hoards of people queuing at every restaurant. We only had 2 hours to spend in Skagway and didn’t want to waste them waiting for food, so ended up grabbing something from a food truck (thank goodness they weren’t too busy). With 4 cruise ships docked in a town of 900 people, it was way too overcrowded for my liking. Many shops had similar touristy merchandise on offer. Some unique items. Nice setting. Glad I saw a little piece of Alaska. Next time I would rent a car and do it myself so I could be in control of what I saw and how long I spent. Our bus driver was very friendly and personable but talked too much about his personal life, and we felt obliged to interact even when we really just wanted to relax and see the sites. Pricey for what we got.
Thanks for joining us on our Skagway adventure! We completely agree, the scenery along the South Klondike Highway is some of our favourite anywhere in the Yukon. Thanks as well for your feedback about lunch in Skagway. The number of cruise ships in port changes from day to day, so restaurant wait times can vary considerably. We'll certainly remind our guides to give guests a heads up about potential crowds so they can decide whether they'd prefer to grab lunch in Carcross or Skagway. We're sorry to hear our guide's style wasn't quite what you were looking for. A guided tour is, by definition, guided, and on a full day guided tour, our guides naturally spend a lot of time sharing stories. Not just about the history and wildlife of the region, but also about what it's actually like to live in Canada's sub Arctic. For many guests, those personal insights are one of the things that make a guided tour different from simply driving the route themselves. That said, everyone travels differently, and if your ideal day is a quieter, self paced road trip, then hiring a car is certainly a great way to experience this spectacular drive. Thanks again for travelling with us. We're glad you enjoyed the scenery and hope the rest of your time in the Yukon was every bit as memorable.
EPIC NORTH did a very professional job for all the activities I did with them (Whitehorse hop-on hop-off, Tour to Skagway, and Northern Lights). They respond promptly to messages and do their best to accommodate your needs. Kudos to James and his team. I strongly recommend them if you go to Whitehorse and want memorable experiences!
Really liked the trip! Stunning landscapes and several unique spots on the way. Our guide Rebecca was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, gave nice insights on the places we go to. Great trip!
Just a fantastic trip, our guide Juan was extremely knowledgeable and tailored the experience to everything we were looking to see. We didn’t feel like we were “on a clock” to do things. We highly recommend.
Hearing the history of the gold rush days and seeing the actual location A terrific guide, comfy ride, beautiful scenery
Amazing tour with some nice spots on the way to skagway. I really enjoyed that we were a small group and liked that we got so much background information. Thanks a lot Ju.
When the White Pass Yukon Route Railway train from Whitehorse to Skagway was cancelled for 2022, I needed alternative transportation options for my trip. I fortunately found the Skagway Explorer tour through Epic North. This trip takes you from Whitehorse to Skagway, making a number of interesting stops along the way (e.g. Emerald Lake, Forty Mile Rapids, Carcross, Carcross Desert and many more). The owner of Epic was always responsive to my emails. He agreed to pick me up from Skagway midway through the tour and bring me back to Whitehorse. If it wasn't for them, I may still be stranded in Alaska! Huge thanks to Yuya for being a great driver/tour guide. He is quite knowledgeable, personable and accommodating. Thanks again for bringing me back to Canada!
Thank you for your kind words. We are happy that you enjoyed being on one of our tours. All the best, and see you hopefully again in the future.
We had great weather but trip had no pre planning explained, we didn't know where we were stopping or for how long, guide was patient, knowledgeable but didn't say much about trip ay all. Drive destination was too long for a 10 hour day, only had one short hour in skagway. The trip is overpriced
Hi Leora, Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the trip and the tour guide's knowledge. Unfortunately, due to our exclusive location in the second-largest country in the world, we have to drive for a while to get to Alaska. Unfortunately, there is no shorter way to get there. We inform all our guests a few days before the tour with information; the description of the experience can be found on our website as well as on the website of our partners. Thank you again for choosing us, and safe travels!
Great experience with them! We needed to go from Whitehorse to Skagway to take the ferry and our driver Yuya made that possible. He was knowledgeable and friendly and made our trip very enjoyable. We even stopped at "Welcome to Alaska" sign! I'd recommend the shuttle service with Epic North 100%!
