Conocida entonces como Plac Zgody, la plaza era el corazón logístico del gueto de Cracovia : control, registro, y punto de partida para los transportes. Después de la guerra pasó a llamarse Plaza de los Héroes del Gueto en recuerdo.
El Campo de Plaszow fue creado por los ocupantes nazis Alemanes en octubre de 1942 en los terrenos de dos cementerios judíos en Cracovia. Comenzó como un campo de trabajo forzado para judíos del gueto liquidado de Cracovia; desde julio de 1943 también mantuvo a polacos en una sección penal-laboral. En enero de 1944 fue redesignado campo de concentración y, más tarde ese mismo año, también funcionó como campo de tránsito para judíos húngaros que eran enviados a Auschwitz. Durante su existencia, más de 35.000 personas fueron encarceladas aquí y alrededor de 6.000 fueron asesinadas. Las ejecuciones tuvieron lugar en varios sitios dentro del campamento; hoy en día las fosas comunes y los monumentos conmemorativos marcan el paisaje.

What a wonderful experience. So much emphasis is placed on Auschwitz but this place is an important piece of the history of the holocaust. Whilst not much is left of the original camp (the Nazis dismantled it) there is enough left to allow my guide to bring its history to life such as the mass graves and roll call grounds. He was extremely knowledgeable and imparted this in at a pace where the story and visions came to life. If your in Krakow, take time to do this tour, you will not be disappointed.

The tour of Plazow concentration camp was harrowing and a must visit. Our tour guide Bartholomew was amazing, very informative and knowledgable. Highly recommend.
Having watched Schindler’s List, this trip showed how the film followed the story and with our tour guide this was achieved and more. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and interesting which made our trip a day to remember, we have been passing the details on to people we met in Krakow and family since being home !!!!

This tour was incredibly informative. The guide took us on a tram from Heros square to Plasow en though a lot of the original features had gone we were shown a lot of things that remain and were shown pictures from when it was standing.
Have done many walking tours in Krakow over the years, but never one like this. So informative and a part of Krakow you may miss - but it shouldn't be forgotten! Micheal was our guide and so passionate about the subject. Learned so much in the 2.5 hours we were with him. Highly recommend this tour and one you won't regret doing.

We had Barbara as our tour guide, and she was just amazing. Very knowledgeable and friendly. She guided us from the Heroes Plaza to the Płaszów labor camp. The entire time, she was giving us information, showing us pictures, and answering any questions we had. It is definitely a very educational tour
