Our 6-day, 5-night adventure in Ecuador (February 2026) was absolutely amazing! With Daniel as our private tour guide and driver, we felt like we had the best insider knowledge about the local culture and customs. Daniel’s fluency in both Spanish and English was a huge plus, especially since many locals don’t speak English. We asked him tons of questions, and he was always happy to share his knowledge. Daniel is a “Man of Many Hats” as he was also our Personal Photographer! The sights we saw were simply breathtaking—from the volcanoes and their craters to the Amazon Rainforest and the stunning Route of the Waterfalls. We had no issues with altitude, going from Quito(9,350 ft) to Quilotoa Volcano Crater (12,841 ft) above sea level. From there we went to see Cotopaxi Volcano (15, 088 ft) above sea level. Just go slow and breathe through your nose. Hydration is important, so drink lots of water. When it comes to drinking water, it’s best to stick with bottled water or water provided by your hotel. The food in Ecuador is amazing, with many fresh and reasonably priced options available. The US dollar is the local currency, and small change is always appreciated. We didn’t have any major issues with insects, but it’s still a good idea to bring some repellent, especially when exploring the rainforest. Dressing in layers is a must, as the temperature can drop significantly in the mornings and evenings. Don’t forget to pack sunscreen with a high SPF, as the sun’s rays can be intense near the equator. Rain showers can pop up unexpectedly, so it’s a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket. The humidity can be quite high, so be prepared for clothes to dry slowly. Just a heads-up: public bathrooms often charge a small fee (around $0.15) Also $0.25 for toilet paper, so it’s a good idea to bring some with you. And always remember to put “all the toilet paper”in the waste basket. And finally, be sure to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes—you’ll need them for all the exploring you’ll be doing!
Thank you very much for sharing your experience! We are delighted to hear that your 6-day adventure in Ecuador was so memorable. It’s wonderful to know that Daniel helped make your journey special by sharing his knowledge of our culture, landscapes, and local traditions. We will definitely pass along your kind words to him — he will be very happy to hear them. Ecuador truly offers incredible diversity, from the Andes volcanoes and Quilotoa crater to the Amazon Rainforest and the beautiful Route of the Waterfalls. We’re glad you were able to experience so much of it. Thank you again for trusting us with your trip. We hope to welcome you back to Ecuador for another adventure in the future! My mother and I travelled with the beautiful kind, caring and wonderfully hard working Erik through Ecuador. You can tell just how much Erik loves his country and how much he cares for the various communities we visited. Fabulous and SAFE driver. I cannot believe how well Erik handled the chaotic roads of Ecuador while trying to answer the multitude of questions we constantly peppered him with. My only feedback would be to run the trip in reverse. Going from high altitude in Quito to the amazon and then back to high altitude really knocked us around. I would go Quito, Cotopaxi then Quilotoa then into banos and the amazon for a more enjoyable trip. Great accommodation and breakfasts. Thank you Erik for your patience with us and for showing us your beautiful country with such passion. Great ambassador.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s heartwarming to hear how much you and your mother enjoyed traveling with Erik. His passion for Ecuador and dedication to ensuring a safe and enriching journey clearly shone through. Navigating Ecuador's roads while answering your questions sounds like no small feat, and we're glad he made you feel safe and well taken care of. Your feedback about the itinerary is much appreciated. Starting in high altitude and then moving to the Amazon and back can definitely be tough on the body. Reversing the order to include Cotopaxi, Quilotoa, Baños, and then the Amazon sounds like a fantastic suggestion to create a smoother experience. Thank you again for the kind words, and we’ll be sure to pass them along to Erik. We're thrilled he could share his love for Ecuador with you!
