Good but frustrating

The day trip to King Ludwig’s two castles was unfortunately disappointing from the very start. The meeting point offered little shelter from the weather, and due to confusion between the tour leaders and drivers, we were left standing in heavy rain for around 20 minutes waiting to board the bus. Beginning a full-day excursion soaked through is hardly an ideal introduction and left many of us uncomfortable for much of the day. Once we arrived at the destinations, a significant portion of the day seemed to be spent waiting between the actual castle tours. Given the poor weather, these lengthy gaps felt particularly frustrating and, at times, unnecessary. Rather than making the most of the day, it often felt as though we were simply passing time until the next scheduled activity. To add to the disappointment, the return journey ran late, meaning we arrived back much later than expected. As a result, the evening plans we had hoped to enjoy were effectively lost, leaving little time for anything beyond finding somewhere to have dinner. There were, however, two redeeming aspects. The refreshments available on the bus were appreciated throughout the day, and our tour guide, Mark, did an excellent job under difficult circumstances. He remained informative, engaging, and patient, and managed to keep a very diverse group of tourists organized despite many people not paying attention to instructions. Overall, while the castles themselves were certainly worth seeing, the delays, long periods of waiting, poor weather, and logistical frustrations overshadowed much of the experience. If anything, the day simply reaffirmed why I generally dislike organized tours, too much time is spent waiting around, plans are often delayed, and too much of the experience feels outside your control.

Be prepared to walk up to...

Be prepared to walk up to the castle if the shuttle is not available for a spectacular view. We did it in 20 degree weather. Walking downhill was much faster. Beautiful castle.

Hello. The trip was...

Hello. The trip was amazing. Regarding the tourist guide is was very respectly , colaborative and helped us in all of the activities and description about castle. The tour organization was perfect, I mean, the bus, schedules, and so on. Regarding the castle the sights are so beatiful but we would have liked to visit a little more the castle. The tour only lasts ten or fifteen minutes and only it visit three or four room. I think the price is high in relation to final visit inside the castle. Thank you very much.

Operator response

Thank you for your nice feedback regarding our guide and the whole tour! Unfortunately we have no influence on the guided tours inside the castle.

Excellent Value

Baskin was the Coach driver and he was a Artist at work, the Bus never Jerked or Rolled or over revved and it was just like a Magic Carpet ride, we just purred along the Autobahn and the narrow roads. Charlie was the tour guide and just spoke the right amount. All in all a very very enjoyable day. Thanks guys your a credit to your profession.

Nice tour - Fun day for a winter visit

Great tour! Enjoy the pace of the day and was easy and well-planned upon arrival to the end. Charlie was our guide (in English) and he covered a great detail of historical facts and shared many interesting insights. There is a hike for those who have any mobility issues but for the four in our group everything was doable.

Amazing trip overall,...

Amazing trip overall, great tour, useful tips from bus tour guide for which landmarks to visit at the destination. Tour inside the castle was amazing and well worth the extra €20 admission fee and ~20-40 min walk up the mountain (bridge was closed). Did not realize there was an additional €20 that needed to be paid in cash to enter the castle. Bus was great and bus driver was amazing! Very accommodating with extra bags. Please show up early if you want to choose your seats and sit next to your friends/family. Seats are not initially assigned but are locked in at the start of the trip. It’s a 2 hour bus ride ONE way.

It was a great tour and...

It was a great tour and Katarina was a wonderful guide. The castle tour itself is a bit rushed but that is not the tour company’s fault—it’s just a very busy attraction. But just the views alone are worth it and the winter landscape was beautiful.

Amazing Fairy Tale Experience- book early!

My husband and I joined this tour over New Years week. Book early for anything around a holiday! We had so much fun during this experience and as seasoned tourists/ travelers I can tell you it was superbly run. Our guide Pedro was amazing! He ran a tight ship for the benefit of the entire group. Even though it was a full day excursion, it is a longer (beautiful) drive and there is a lot to see once you get there. He gave us detailed structure on how to use our time the best to see everything which we followed to a T. We got to see everything we wanted plus some shopping, a good sit down lunch, and some amazing donut balls on the way back from the castle. It is a lot of walking up and down hills to get where you need to go, but if you’re prepared for that it’s not bad at all. We LOVED this tour and would not hesitate at all to recommend it…even in the winter. The ice on the trees was very beautiful. Wear the right clothes and shoes for the weather and you’ll be just fine. The castle itself is very impressive and the guide inside was top notch too. I like the timed entrances so you didn’t have to be crushed in like some other tours I’ve been on (ahem-Versailles). It truly was a fairy tale day!

Operator response

Thank you for your nice review! We are really glad you and your husband could spend a great and unforgettable day! It is indeed very important to wear warm clothes in winter because of the temperature in the mountains. We are happy to know you liked the tour and the castle as well as the tour guide Pedro he really is great!
