Our Guide James was fantastic, he was very knowledgeable and provided us with a wealth of information that gave us an excellent insight into the Township. This tour in our opinion is a 'must do' experience to see how displaced poor communities live. It puts things into perspective and provides an understanding of the realities of black and coloured living in segregated Townships whilst they wait for a council home.
Langa is an incredibly hopeful place, the people are very welcoming. The community is strong and work very hard to make each other strong. Truly fascinating. Cloudy Deliveries is a stand out to us, so inspiring, all people should have such a positive outlook as Colin.
Nelson Zwafika was the guide for our grandmother / grandson (age 10) duo. I will start by saying that Nelson's knowledge and ability to share information and discuss complex issues (apartheid - and what that entailed) with adults and children alike was outstanding. He provided a real feel for how it was and how it is now. Our tour included a visit to the district 6 museum which provided a foundation for what we were about to see. It was followed by a trip Langa township: a kindergarten (day Care) where we were able to interact with staff and children, a visit to the old pass office and a visit to living quarters where he himself had lived. He introduced us to many people in the township for brief chats which, literally, brought the experience to life. In North America, one hears about "Townships" but to actually see what these are and how people manage is a necessary part of visiting South Africa (in my opinion). While it was uncomfortable at times given the disparity between what we came from and what we were seeing, it was well worth doing. It was informative for me and was the beginning of providing my grandson with a look and some perspective on what goes on in other parts of the world. Bravo Nelson. I would travel with him any day on any of the tours he offers. With praise and gratitude. Grandmother and grandson.
James was phenomenal!!! A great great day! We learned so much and felt it was an authentic experience!
We did the LaGuGu cultural township tour. It is a must do tour for Cape Town to understand Apartheid and how its consequences reverberate until today . The struggle for equality continues socioeconomically. Tourism helps the shanty towns.
This was an Amazing tour! Our tour guide was Awesome !😎 He was very knowledgeable and took his time showing us around the different townships. We Absolutely loved this tour!
Our guide James was excellent and gave us a great insight into both the history and reality of the Townships. We visited Langa and James made sure we were safe at all times. It is a unique trip and one we woukd throughly recommend.
Didn’t know what to expect but felt we couldn’t leave Cape Town without learning something of the Townships of which we’d seen many on our Garden Route Drive. Our guide was born in a Langa so was able to provide a really knowledgeable experience for us. It was a very positive uplifting experience seeing the residents going about their daily life. We were made feel very welcome and especially enjoyed the Gospel Church Experience. A big thank you to our excellent guide. Very worth while experience.
Excellent tour, it was just us and our guide James who was very knowledgeable and was able to explain everything and brought the tour to life for us. Initially had some reservations about visiting the township but felt very safe at all times.
If you get the chance take up the option of visiting a township while you’re staying in Cape Town. It can be confronting but also opens your eyes to the other side of life here. Many people struggle everyday with security of food, safe shelter and sanitation. The local churches seem to be working with people in their daily lives and despite the hardships there is often a sense of resilience and hopefulness.
