Itinerary

45 min

Asakusa is one of Tokyo’s most historic districts, home to the famous Sensō-ji Temple. With its giant red lantern, the lively Nakamise shopping street, and traditional atmosphere, Asakusa offers a timeless glimpse into old Tokyo. It’s the perfect place to enjoy culture, street food, and iconic photo spots.

15 min

The Sumida River offers a peaceful break from Tokyo’s busy streets, with wide riverside paths, scenic bridges, and views of the Tokyo Skytree. It’s a beautiful area for a relaxing walk, quiet photos, and watching boats glide along the water. The contrast between the calm river and the surrounding city makes it a refreshing stop during your Tokyo exploration.

30 min

Ameyoko is a lively open-air market stretching along the railway tracks between Ueno and Okachimachi. Packed with street food, local shops, spices, seafood, snacks, and bargain clothing, it captures the energetic “local Tokyo” vibe. A perfect place to explore daily life and try new flavors.

15 min

Ueno Park is one of Tokyo’s most historic and atmospheric public parks, offering a quieter side of the city with hidden temples, traditional pathways, and a local atmosphere away from the modern districts. Along the walk, we may visit Kiyomizu Kannon-do, Gojo Tenjin Shrine, and Hanazono Inari Shrine — small historic sites tucked inside the park that many visitors completely miss.

15 min

A short walk at the Shinobazu Pond — once a favorite spot for couples in the Edo period, today still peaceful, home to lotus, koi fish, turtles, and migratory birds throughout the year.

45 min

Meiji Jingu is one of Tokyo’s most important and peaceful Shinto shrines, surrounded by a large forest that creates a quiet escape from the city. Visitors walk through towering wooden torii gates and shaded paths before reaching the main shrine, where traditional rituals and serene architecture offer a timeless look into Japanese spirituality. It’s a calming, beautiful stop for culture and nature lovers alike.

45 min

Takeshita Street is the heart of Harajuku’s youth culture, famous for its colorful fashion boutiques, kawaii shops, creative snacks, and unique pop culture energy. The narrow street is always lively, packed with trendy clothing stores, crepe stands, and fun photo spots. It’s a must-visit area for anyone wanting to experience Harajuku’s playful and iconic style.

60 min

Shibuya is one of Tokyo’s most iconic districts, famous for Shibuya Scramble Crossing the busiest crossing in the world, neon lights, modern shopping malls, and a vibrant nightlife scene. It blends youthful energy with stylish urban culture, featuring landmarks like the Hachikō Statue — a beloved meeting point — and Miyashita Park, a trendy complex with rooftop greenery, cafés, boutiques, and great photo spots. Shibuya is the perfect destination for shopping, nightlife, and modern city exploration.

60 min

Stop at the iconic Godzilla Head, right in the heart of Tokyo’s nightlife district. Don’t miss the giant 3D cat billboard, a modern symbol of Shinjuku’s playful spirit, and explore Golden Gai — a maze of tiny bars each with its own unique charm. Then Up to the 45th-floor observatory for stunning city views — and Mt. Fuji on clear days. Optional: the Ninja Kabuki Tokyo show on demand.

15 min

(Optional stop — tailored to your interests) One of Tokyo’s most famous food districts, known for its vibrant atmosphere and incredible variety of fresh seafood and street food. From sushi and grilled skewers to local specialties, it offers a true taste of Tokyo’s culinary culture. A perfect stop to explore, taste, and experience the city through its flavors.

30 min

(Optional stop — tailored to your interests) Visit to Akihabara — also known as “Electric Town,” is the heart of Tokyo’s otaku culture. The area is filled with anime shops, retro game stores, multi-level arcades, and major electronics retailers. With its bright neon signs, cosplay energy, and themed cafés, Akihabara offers a fun and immersive dive into modern Japanese pop culture.

15 min

(Optional stop — tailored to your interests) Visit Kappabashi, Tokyo’s famous kitchenware district, located between Asakusa and Ueno. This area is known for its wide selection of Japanese knives, tableware, chopsticks, cookware, and the iconic plastic food displays seen in restaurant windows. A unique stop that offers insight into Japanese food culture and everyday craftsmanship, perfect for those interested in cooking, design, or local shopping.

Best Private Tokyo Tour – A Must-Do Experience

One of the best experiences of our trip to Japan! Renaud provided an outstanding private Tokyo tour, combining famous landmarks, hidden gems, local culture, and fascinating historical insights. From the peaceful atmosphere of Meiji Jingu Shrine to the energy of Shibuya Crossing and the traditional charm of Asakusa, every stop offered something unique. What made this tour special was the personal touch. Renaud tailored the day to our interests and shared countless stories about Tokyo and Japanese culture that brought the city to life. We never felt rushed and had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and explore at our own pace. For anyone looking for a private guide in Tokyo, this tour is an excellent choice. Professional, flexible, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. Highly recommended!

Highly do not recommend

Not worth it if your under 40 years of age. Tour guide does not provide you much information on the sites. Only went to 3 of 4 cause there not actually time to see everything. Tour guide was a kinda racist which didn't help. Was a 329CAD overpriced walk that you can do yourself by searching two or three locations and using transit.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. We were especially surprised by the comment regarding the guide, as no concern of this nature was mentioned during or after the tour. Following the experience, you thanked the guide for his insights and conversations about Tokyo, and expressed that it was great meeting him. We take any concern related to discrimination very seriously. Our goal is always to provide a respectful, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for every guest, regardless of background, age, or travel style. Our private tours are flexible, and the number of locations visited may vary depending on the guest's pace, interests, and the time available during the tour. While we respect every guest's right to share their opinion, we respectfully disagree with the characterization of the guide in this review. We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.

Superficial

Guide was pleasant and friendly, but not very knowledgeable. If you want just an overview of some of the city highlights, it's fine, but if you want historical and cultural information, not so much.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback, Elizabeth. I'm glad you found our tour guide Ami friendly and enjoyable. As we work with a small team of guides, each guide has their own style and approach. I appreciate your comments and will use them to keep improving the experience for future guests. Wishing you a wonderful stay in Japan!

Excellent!

Sam was a wonderful guide! We went to many, many places because I was by myself and we both can walk very fast. We made some choices on the fly and everything went well. I felt very safe with Sam, as a woman traveling alone in a new country. In fact, Japan is very safe in general. I highly recommend this tour.

This tour of Tokyo is a must!!

This experience was fantastic!! We were able to cultivate our tour experience to what suited our groups' needs. We were a larger group of over 10 people (adults and kids). It was our first visit to Japan, our first time riding the train station and walking around Tokyo. Overall it was educational, breathtaking, and reflective. Walking through Ueno, experiencing the temple at Senso-Ji, and walking through the Meiji Jingu gardens are experiences we will never forget. Renaud was a fantastic tour guide who was extremely informative and has a very calm demeanor.
