Description

Besides showing the landmarks like Kaminarimon Gate and Tokyo Skytree, Ryo will accompany you to many lovely temples and shrines around the area. Asakusa is a distinctive place to have both a Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine next to each other. You will also be able to know more about the religious views among Japanese people. Finally, Ryo will take you to Nakamise Shopping Street, where he will explain the origin of Senso-ji Temple while showing various illustrations. Also, he will tell you how the temple has been loved and supported by a variety of people, from locals to the generals of different periods. The host, Ryo has 6 years of experience working in Asakusa as a rickshaw driver and is passionate about introducing Japanese culture and history through the exploration of Asakusa. He would also be happy to tell his insights with humor from the perspective of a local Japanese comedian. Let’s enjoy to take a deeper look into Asakusa, the most iconic historical site in Tokyo!

Walking the Streets of Asakusa with a Comedian

When I was in Tokyo in October 2025, I had the opportunity to take a private Karate class with Ryo, so I was excited to see him again - this time as my Asakusa guide. Although I had been to Sensoji Temple before, Ryo pointed out things only a native would know. We had our fortune read, and even purified ourselves with the smoke from the burning incense. If you are interested in an introduction to Asakusa before visiting the alleys of shops near the temple, join Ryo for his tour. He is also a comedian, so he may crack a joke or two!

Highly recommend

We highly recommend the walking tour in Asakusa with Ryo the comedian. Not only was the tour really good fun and relaxing but it was very informative and helpful. It was a great way for us to becoming familiar with the main area in Asakusa as we were staying in the area as a home base for a week.

Friendly guide

Ryo was a wonderful comedian who guided us through Asakusa and the main temple of Tokyo. He was friendly, personable, and immediately made us feel welcome. After the tour, he mentioned he had a stand-up show nearby, so we decided to check it out and we’re glad we did. We spent the evening laughing together and had an absolute blast.

Superb guide, highly recommend

We had an absolutely fantastic tour with Ryo! From the very beginning he was warm, personable, knowledgeable and professional. On top of that, he’s simply great company, his sense of humour and energy made for a relaxing and engaging time. What really sets Ryo apart is that you can book him directly, which makes all the difference. Unlike other companies where you are randomly assigned a guide, with Ryo you are getting a great guide. We can’t recommend him highly enough, a highlight of our visit to Tokyo. Shame we didn’t have more days as we would have really like to see his stand-up comedy show.

We liked him so much, we asked if he could accompany our family everywhere on our two week vacation to Japan.

We had an amazing experience touring Asakusa with Ryo! Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable about the area and its history, but he's also a talented comedian who kept us laughing the whole time. Ryo was very patient, answered all of our questions thoroughly, and even took time to snap photos with us. His friendly and engaging personality made the tour feel personal and memorable. We highly recommend booking a tour with Ryo—he truly made our visit to Asakusa special!
