The Acropolis of Athens, perched on a limestone hill in the heart of the city, is Greece’s most iconic ancient site and a universal symbol of classical civilization. Dating back to the 5th century BC, it was the spiritual and political center of ancient Athens. Dominated by the Parthenon, the Acropolis also features the Propylaea, Erechtheion, and Temple of Athena Nike—each showcasing the brilliance of ancient Greek architecture. Built during Athens’ Golden Age under Pericles, this UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrates the city’s devotion to Athena and its lasting contributions to democracy, philosophy, and the arts.

The grand entrance to the Acropolis, the Propylaea, is an impressive gateway built in the 5th century BC under the leadership of Pericles. Its majestic Doric columns and balanced symmetry mark the transition from the secular to the sacred. As visitors pass through, they follow in the footsteps of ancient Athenians who once climbed this path during grand religious festivals. (Included in the Acropolis & Slopes entrance ticket)

A small yet striking Ionic temple, the Temple of Athena Nike stands at the southwest edge of the Acropolis. Built around 427 BC, it was dedicated to Athena as the bringer of victory. Its delicate friezes and compact beauty make it a gem of classical architecture. (Included in the Acropolis & Slopes entrance ticket)

The crown jewel of the Acropolis, the Parthenon is a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, protector of Athens. Built between 447 and 432 BC, it represents the pinnacle of Doric architecture and classical art. Even in its ruined state, it radiates power, harmony, and timeless beauty. (Included in the Acropolis & Slopes entrance ticket)

This elegant temple is known for its asymmetrical design and the iconic Caryatids — graceful female figures that serve as architectural supports. The Erechtheion stands on the most sacred part of the Acropolis, where, according to legend, Athena and Poseidon competed for the city's patronage. The temple honors both gods, as well as early Athenian kings, blending mythology and history in a uniquely intricate structure. (Included in the Acropolis & Slopes entrance ticket)

Nestled on the southern slope of the Acropolis, this ancient theater was dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine and drama, and served as the stage for the works of great playwrights like Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. With its semicircular seating carved into the hillside, the theater could hold up to 17,000 spectators who gathered for grand performances and festivals. As you stand amid the ruins, imagine the voices and stories that once filled this sacred space, shaping the foundation of Western theater against the awe-inspiring backdrop of ancient Athens. (Included in the Acropolis & Slopes entrance ticket)

Today, its impressive arches and tiered seating remain a testament to Roman-era architectural mastery and serve as a cultural venue during the Athens Festival. Ellis is our Greek dad!

Ellis was a very patient and knowledgeable guide. He answered all of our questions and even gave insight as a local to other things to see and do in Athens. He picked us up directly from our cruise port and was able to take us directly back. It was the perfect way to see as much of Athens in a short time with a private and delightful guide! The communication from booking to the actual tour was top notch as well including making sure we got our acropolis tickets to make the day complete and wonderful!

A Perfect Half-Day Experience in Athens

The half-day Athens tour was truly an excellent experience! Our friends had traveled from Scotland to Athens for a conference, and with only one free day available, I recommended this company so they could make the most of their time — and it was absolutely the right choice. I also took the opportunity to join them and accompany them on the tour, which made the experience even more enjoyable for all of us. Their driver, Petros, was outstanding: professional, punctual, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the city’s history. He guided us through the Acropolis of Athens and around the city center in a way that was engaging and easy to follow, making the whole experience both enjoyable and memorable. We all felt that in just a few hours we truly experienced the highlights of Athens, without any stress or hassle. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city, especially if they have limited time!

Athens on the Go!

Our driver Peter was amazing! He took us all over Athens! He definitely knows his way around! He took us to many sites and described them in detail. He even took us to some special areas as well! We wanted some authentic Greek food so he took us to a restaurant outside of the tourist area which was very good. Then he took us to a cute ice cream shop which was yummy and had baklava as well. Being of Greek descent made to trip that much enjoyable! Peter the Great!

Great way to spend the day

Our driver Loukas was fantastic! So accommodating and helpful. While we were driving he shared lots of Greek history and information. We started with a tour of the Acropolis, then saw the Olympic stadium, changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace and a lovely time enjoying the view and the coffee on top of Mount Lycabettus. Nice and educational way to see the highlights of Athens in a small group.

Athenians First was a top-notch operation! Very professional throughout. We used them for airport transfers (both ways) with our group arriving at different times - thank you Yiannis, Petros and Thanos! We had Aggelos organizing and coordinating everything and he was very communicative. Aggelos was also our driver and tour guide around Athens - very knowledgeable and gave us a really great experience. He had a great lunch recommendation and it was perfect! All of their vehicles were very nice, air-conditioned and cold waters were provided - perfect for a 100+ temp day!
