This full-day shark-diving experience takes you out into the open ocean off the shore of Gansbaai and puts you in their habitat. Before jumping in, you'll learn about the sharks from the onboard marine biologist and expert guides. Breakfast, snacks and Cape Town hotel pick-up and drop-off are included.

A visit to the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary is both inspiring and educational. Please note that the timeslot selected is an estimated time for when the Shark Cage Diving boat will launch. Pickup time will be earlier to allow enough travel time from Cape Town to arrive for pre-trip briefing at the Great White House in Gansbaai. These are only estimated times and exact times can only be confirmed a day prior, after a detailed weather and tide check. Please allow a full day in your itinerary for this activity.

- Please note: Sharks are wild animals and their presence cannot be guaranteed. Every experience that guests have is educational from start to finish. The local supplier works with wild life and nature and sightings are never guaranteed. If a shark has been sighted from the boat, they will consider that a successful trip. If there is no shark activity while on a shark cage diving tour with the supplier, then a voucher will be offered. This voucher is not transferable – your name and passport number will be recorded on the voucher. The transfer fee is non-refundable.
- This tour typically departs at 9am, however if the weather conditions are bad in the morning, the tour will leave in the afternoon; this will be confirmed by the tour operator close to the day of your tour.

Marine Dynamics delivered so much more than a shark cage diving experience—they delivered world-class hospitality. From the moment we arrived and saw our names on the welcome board, we felt genuinely welcomed and valued. It was such a thoughtful touch that immediately made us feel like VIP guests. Meeting Claudia and Aletta were a pleasure, and it was clear from the start that the passion for guest experience and marine conservation runs throughout the entire team. Carmen, our driver, was fantastic, and Thomas was exceptional on the boat, constantly checking in on everyone and even giving us the opportunity to enter the cage twice, which made the experience even more memorable. The wildlife encounters were absolutely incredible! We were fortunate enough to see numerous **Bronze Whaler sharks**, and they kept coming back to the cage, giving us amazing viewing opportunities throughout the trip. One curious little Bronze Whaler was particularly entertaining—it actually swam right into the cage, and we had to gently push him back out, which gave everyone a good laugh! We were also lucky enough to spot stingrays and playful Cape fur seals, making the entire experience even more magical. A special thank you to the wonderful volunteers who looked after me when I started feeling seasick. Their kindness, compassion, and attentiveness made such a difference, and I couldn't be more grateful. Also, a huge shoutout to the cameraman and official hype man—his energy and enthusiasm kept everyone smiling and added so much fun to the day! The educational aspect was equally impressive. Learning about the sharks, African penguins, and the incredible conservation work Marine Dynamics does was fascinating. Every team member was knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely excited to share their expertise. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I naturally pay close attention to guest experiences, and this team absolutely exceeded my expectations. The activity was well-planned, communication beforehand was timely and clear. Adam (driver) picked us up at our hotel on time and brought us to the dive house. Amy (primary guide) gave clear guidance on what to expect over breakfast. The activity itself was organized and we felt safe the whole time; the group saw a nice mix of giant black stingrays, bronze whaler sharks, and cape seals. After heading back to shore, we had a light lunch, then Adam took us to the Penguin Center, then back to Cape Town.
It was a fun experience! I’m glad I did it and I loved how excited the guides all were during the entire day.

Whole experience was faultless. Picked up promptly at my hotel in a clean and comfortable van. Stopped on the way to the dive location for a toilet and coffee break. Met a Marine Dynamics by a good breakfast. Quick safety briefing and then out in the boat. On 30mins to dive site we saw a sunfish and a quick glimmer of a whale. Saw a total of 7 sharks and a friendly seal. Good wetsuits and equipment .Great view of the sharks from the boat but the visibility in the water wasn’t very good, but at least I can say I swam with sharks. Hot chocolate to warm up after. Returned to soup and rolls for lunch before the drive back to Cape Town. Marine Dynamics is a professionally run organisation and I would recommend this to anyone.

Absolutely worth it. We were hesitant to book this trip due to the decline in great white sightings, but we ended up being thrilled by the incredible views of bronze whaler sharks and rays. What really stood out was the company’s genuine passion and dedication to shark and wildlife conservation. It’s a really nice experience, and I truly enjoyed it. I also liked that, besides having a good time, you’re contributing to shark research in the area—that part meant a lot to me. However, personally, I booked this experience because both my travel agency and the website mentioned that it was to see great white sharks. As they explain once you arrive, since around 2017 two orcas have been preying on them, so it’s now very, very unlikely to see a great white. That was disappointing for me. If you’re looking for an experience to see other types of sharks or marine life, it’s definitely fun and worthwhile. But if your main goal is specifically to see a great white shark, I wouldn’t recommend it. That said, the crew is very friendly, and you’ll still have a great time overall.

We are, however, sorry to hear about your disappointment regarding the expectation of seeing great white sharks. Your reservation was made through a third-party hotel in Cape Town, and they should have clarified that our current cage diving experience is focused on bronze whaler sharks. We completely understand how this could have led to confusion, and we apologise for that misunderstanding. Since approximately 2017, great white shark sightings in the area have become extremely rare due to the presence of orcas, something that is unfortunately beyond our control. In their place, bronze whaler sharks have become the main species encountered. They are highly active and curious, often providing very close and memorable cage interactions for our guests. It’s also worth noting that bronze whaler sharks are not a protected species, which is why our work around awareness and research is so important — helping to highlight their role in the ecosystem and the need for future protection. We truly appreciate your kind words about our crew and are glad you still had an enjoyable time overall. We hope to welcome you back again in the future for another ocean experience with us.
