Experience traditional Dutch culture on this 5-hour private journey from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, a clog and cheese factory, and Volendam. After pickup from your accommodation in Amsterdam, your driver/host will take you to the first destination of the day: Zaanse Schans, a region of the Netherlands full of traditional structures. Tour the wooden dwellings, windmills, and quaint little shops. Above all, you can admire the traditional mills scattered throughout the town, each of which has its own purpose: there's a paint mill, oil mill, saw mill, and more. The next stops will be the cheese farm. Learn how the cheese is made and taste some delectable tidbits. Next, visit Volendam, a fishing village known for its fresh eel and herring. Taste some fresh fish, try on a traditional Dutch outfit and have your picture taken as you fit in with the Volendamers. In the center of the town, walk along the dyke (boulevard) and explore the various restaurants and shops.

From Amsterdam it's about 30 minutes driving to the Zaanse Schans. When you arrived at the Zaanse Schans (windmills), you will enjoy an wooden shoe demonstration, will walk around and learn about the history of the windmills. After that you will go to the cheese farm that's about 25 minutes driving.
When you arrived from the Zaanse Schans you will learn about the history of the Gouda cheese. They will tell you how they make Gouda cheese, after that you can taste all the different kind of flavours, and after that you can go into the stables to see the cows. When you are done you will go to Volendam that's about 5 minutes driving.
When you arrived in Volendam, you will get some free time. Taste some fresh fish from a traditional cart and admire the old port, full of Dutch ships. Try on a traditional Dutch outfit and have your picture taken as you fit in with the Volendamers. In the center of the town, walk along the dyke (boulevard) and explore the various restaurants and shops. From Volendam it's about 30 minutes driving to Amsterdam

We had a an excellent tour with Johan. This tour is filled with original history how things are made. We enjoyed seeing how the cheese was made & tasting all the flavors. Learned interesting facts about making wooden shoes & how paint is made by windmills. Volendam is also a very wonderful smal city. Such a fun day & Johan was a pleasure to tour with. Perfect family outing. Takes you out of the city and involves you in the culture and history of the Netherlands. Our grandsons, aged 6 and 10 were very interested in the windmills especially the saw mill. It was a beautiful day, and our driver Hamza was excellent.

Wonderful experience. Much more efficient than if we had tried to complete the trip on our own! It was nice to get out of the city and see the windmills and the farm. We had lunch in Voldendam. Transportation was beautifully appointed and our guide was wonderful!
