Main fountain of the city and its main reason reason of existance in this place
Constructed in the 15th century, Chefchaouen’s Grande Mosque was built on the orders of Moulay Mohamed Ben Ali Ben Rachid, the son of the city’s founder. It features an octagonal minaret, which is somewhat unusual when compared to the many square minarets that generally tower over the nation’s myriad mosques. The shape was influenced by Andalusian styles, brought to the country by Muslims from Spain. Built from stone, the shades of brown and beige are juxtaposed against the nearby blue and white buildings. Admiring the mosque is among the top things to do in the city. Do note that non-Muslim visitors are not permitted to enter the mosque.

We did a day trip to Chefchaouen (the Blue City) and while it was a long drive, it was absolutely worth it once we arrived. The city is stunning—every corner is a photo op, and walking through the blue-painted streets is a charming experience. Our driver made the journey fly by with his funny, easygoing personality, and he even arranged a local guide for us (for an extra fee), which was totally worth it. The guide was a Chefchaouen local—super knowledgeable, laid-back, and full of interesting stories about the city. We ended up hiring the same driver (Issam) for airport transfers too. He was always punctual, reliable, and easy to communicate with via WhatsApp. Highly recommend!
Chefchaouen is a great place with beautiful places everywhere. Booking with the tour ensures you don't need to travel in the congested bus for the three-hour drive.
