Located right in the historic center of Porto, Praça da Ribeira, next to the quay with the same name, is one of the oldest squares in the city, already mentioned in royal letters in 1389. It was in this area of Ribeira and in its commercial connection with the Douro River that the city began its frank development and turned to the river. This led to the infamous Ponte das Barcas, where in 1809 more than 4,000 people died during an onslaught of French troops. Today a bronze bas-relief attests to this moment.
The real name of this bridge is Luiz I and not, as it is popularly called, D. Luís I. A sentimental question of the people of Porto seems to be the origin of the name by which it is commonly known. Fine people, real cycling enthusiasts. We cycled quite a bit, at great pace, with a small group. Guide Diana sensed what we wanted.
This was awesome!! Bernardo was our guide, and it was perfect. We went along the beach and then up into the main park. It was a great experience, I highly recommend it. It's a great way to see different areas of Porto.
It was a wonderful activity with a great guide who told us so much about Porto in an interesting way and showed us beautiful sights. A highly recommended tour!!!!!
I always think a cycle tour gives you a fuller sight seeing perspective than maybe walking does but Porto is quite a unique city in that it is very hilly. I mean it would be a difficult ride. So the bike tour is ok on the flat. But the interesting parts of Porto are on the climb.. so if you fancy a leisurely ride out to a really nice are of Porto and then get the zoomies on the bike through the park. Yes bike tours are for you.. I think if you want to really get stuck in to a Porto tour walking might be best.. either way both work so maybe do both..
Hugo did an amazing job giving us really interesting insights about Porto, with genuine enthusiasm and love for this city. He told fascinating stories and gave us a unique perspective. The bike ride was fun and a great way to explore the beaches and get away from the city center. Be prepared to ride on the tram tracks for a good portion of the ride though. Nonetheless we felt safe. Overall, Highly recommend!
Best tour in Porto. You see the city from a different more peaceful side. The parks and the sea were beautiful. Miguel was a great guide and it was wonderful to see the city through the eyes of the locals. Bikes were fabulous and it was very safe. I could not recommend this highly enough. Obrigado Sara Miguel and Pedro you were fabulous. You are top of my list when we come back to Porto.
I was so glad that we decided to book this E Bike tour. We were lucky to have Flavio as our guide, who was so lovely and his knowledge was endless. Even though the city was busy, it didnt feel stressful at all. We even had time to stop for a quick coffee during our tour. The E Bikes made light work, would do this again.
Perfect electric bike ride to discover the bottom of Porto city, the river, beaches and parks. Very interesting guide.
