Itinerary
Embark on an unforgettable day trip from Munich to the iconic Eagle's Nest and the charming village of Hallstatt. Our journey begins with personalized pick-up service, where travelers are whisked away from their desired location within Munich, be it a hotel, Airbnb, or any other preferred spot. Our experienced English-speaking driver will greet guests with a warm welcome, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free start to their adventure. Whether nestled in the heart of the city or tucked away in its outskirts, travelers can relax and enjoy the scenic drive as we depart from Munich and head towards the breathtaking landscapes of the Bavarian Alps. From bustling urban streets to picturesque countryside vistas, our journey promises to offer a delightful blend of city charm and natural beauty.
The Eagle's Nest or Kehlsteinhaus was built in 1937-1938 as a gift for Hitler's 50th birthday. The building is an architectural masterpiece with fantastic views, rising on a narrow rocky ridge at an altitude of 1,834 metres in the middle of the Bavarian Alps near the Alpine town of Berchtesgaden. A visit to the Eagle's Nest is fascinating, your private English-speaking driver will take you to the car park, where a local bus will take you along a steep 6.5km long path carved into the rock. In 15 minutes you'll climb 700 metres. But that's not all. When you reach the upper car park, you'll have to walk through a marble-lined tunnel and then take a luxurious period lift up another 124 metres. There, you'll find not only the interior of the once-famous villa, but also the restaurant and, of course, stunning panoramic views of the Alps.
Nestled on the serene shores of Lake Hallstatt, our journey brings us to the enchanting village of Hallstatt, a destination straight out of a fairy tale. As we arrive, travelers are greeted by a scene of unparalleled beauty, where charming pastel-colored houses line the cobblestone streets, reflecting softly in the crystal-clear waters below. Hallstatt's allure lies not only in its picturesque setting but also in its rich history and cultural heritage. Explore the village's quaint alleyways, where every corner reveals centuries-old architecture and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. From the iconic Hallstatt Skywalk offering panoramic views of the village and the lake to the fascinating Hallstatt Museum showcasing the region's ancient past, there's no shortage of wonders to explore.
As the sun sets on our unforgettable journey through the Bavarian countryside, it's time to bid farewell to the enchanting village of Hallstatt and embark on the final leg of our adventure back to Munich. But fear not, for our reliable English-speaking driver is here to ensure a seamless and comfortable journey homeward. You can relax and unwind in the comfort of our private transport as we navigate the scenic roads from Hallstatt to Munich. With our experienced driver at the helm, safety and comfort are assured every step of the way, allowing guests to sit back, relax, and reflect on the day's memorable experiences. We had a great time on this tour, our driver Peter also took us to a lovely lake town as an extra it was just perfect, long day but worth it
I had one of the most memorable days of not only my trip but my entire life. Tomas was exemplary. He really knows his history, is so personable, and he’s a very nice and sincere guy. He shared all of his vast knowledge of Bavaria and because this is my second tour with him, we have become friends. The Audi Forum is phenomenal, and if you’re a car guy like me, it’s a must see. I guarantee you will love it! The Audis are incredible. The inclement weather conditions made things a little difficult, but not with Tomas. He improvised and went out of his way to make my excursion memorable. Viator is my company of choice for all of my future trips, and Tomas is my tour guide whenever I visit Munich again. Danke!
My son and I really wanted to go to the Eagle's Nest and Halstatt but I was hesitant of Austria's rules regarding foreign drivers (needing an international driving license/special vignette). With this tour, I did not have to worry about anything. Josef picked us up right on time at our AirBnb and drove us to all of the sites. He communicated with us very well through WhatsApp before and during the trip. They also explained when to buy online tickets for entrance into the Eagle's nest based on our pickup time. We were picked up at 8am, had a 2-hour drive and then had enough time to visit the documentation center (about 1 hour) before heading up to the mountain retreat. We spent two hours there and was able to modify our bus ticket down to an earlier time slot and was able to communciate that with Josef. After that, he drove us to Halstatt and gave us options of other places we might go based on our time. We even made a quick side trip to another beautiful lake. The car was clean and comfortable and even though it was a pricey trip, I had peace of mind and the day was stress-free. IJosef is courteous, professional and could answer any questions we had. I would highly recommend.
The view at Eagle’s Nest is beautiful, but for us it was not worth the long drive from Munich. The bus ride up a very narrow and winding road, only to learn it’s really just a restaurant up top with a view. Very disappointing. In addition, we were told to purchase tickets for a certain time, but our driver was late and then we were stuck in traffic. We had to beg the bus driver to let us on since they told us our tickets were no longer valid. Hallstatt, while pretty is overrated. It’s very crowded. We also spent 1 1/2 hours driving there to only have 45 minutes to walk around. Lastly, the driver had so much cologne on it made us nauseous for the long ride.
Dear Melanie, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that this experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify a few important points regarding the day. According to our GPS records and the communication with your driver, the driver was at the hotel area on time for the scheduled 8:00 AM pickup. There was some traffic near the hotel, and the driver communicated with you directly to coordinate the exact pickup point. Regarding the Eagle’s Nest bus tickets, we understand this situation may have felt stressful. However, our team stayed in contact with you during the trip and actively assisted with the bus timing. The tickets were adjusted for you, there was no additional charge, and you were able to take the bus and visit Eagle’s Nest. We also understand that you chose to spend more time there before continuing the trip. Unfortunately, traffic conditions in the Berchtesgaden / Eagle’s Nest area can be unpredictable, especially during busy periods, and they are outside of our control. We always do our best to adjust the itinerary and help our guests when delays happen. Regarding Hallstatt, we fully understand your impression. Hallstatt is beautiful, but it has become extremely crowded in recent years due to overtourism. Local authorities, police, and residents have introduced stricter rules and restrictions, which can affect access, parking, timing, and the overall visitor experience. We do inform travelers that Hallstatt can be very busy, especially in peak season. We are sorry that the long driving distances, traffic, crowds, and timing made the day feel disappointing for you. This route covers several very popular alpine destinations in one day, and while many guests enjoy the scenic journey, we understand that it may not feel worthwhile for everyone. We also regret your comment regarding the driver’s cologne and will address this internally with the driver, as guest comfort during a long private trip is important to us. We would also like to mention that we know this driver very well and have worked with him for a long time with consistently excellent feedback from our customers. This was the first complaint of this kind we have received regarding him. Our team did its best to support you throughout the day, communicate with you, adjust the bus tickets, and keep the trip moving despite traffic and local restrictions. We are sorry that the overall experience still left you disappointed, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve how we set expectations for future travelers. Kind regards, The Europe Journey Team
John our driver was great. Beautiful weather at Eagles Nest. Hallstatt is a nice little town but the quaintness is not what it appears. Very crowded and touristy. Overall a good time however.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that John helped make your day enjoyable and that you had beautiful weather during your visit to Eagle’s Nest. Hallstatt can certainly be very lively and popular with visitors, especially during peak travel periods, but we’re glad you still enjoyed the atmosphere and overall experience of the trip. It’s wonderful to know the journey was a good time overall and that the combination of destinations created memorable moments for you. We truly appreciate your balanced feedback and hope to welcome you on another Europe Journey experience in the future.
Be careful about dates - check independently that the attractions are open for the specific date when you book the tour. We booked the tour to Eagle's Nest and Hallstatt for Monday, March 30th, but then they told us Eagle's Nest isn't open till May. They did provide several great alternatives, so we were still excited about the tour, but then we found out the day of the tour that one of the alternatives was also closed on Mondays in March. BUT our driver came up with another great alternative on the spot and we still had a great time. This was great for flexibility, and the stops were a lot of fun for us and our kids - we loved Hallstatt, the visit to the salt mine, and the cable car that took us to the top of a mountain in the Alps. I would usually prefer a tour where I know what we're doing ahead of time and I can trust that the tour that I booked is available for the date I booked it. I would also have preferred a more informative tour guide instead of just a driver who dropped us off at each stop. But we ended up having a great time and our driver did a great job suggesting the cable car alternative and driving us back to Munich through a snowstorm.
Dear Emily. Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We sincerely appreciate your comments and are sorry for the confusion regarding seasonal and Monday closures. We understand how important it is to have clear expectations in advance, and your feedback is very valuable to us. At the same time, we’re pleased to hear that despite the changes, you and your family still had a great day, enjoyed Hallstatt, the salt mine, and the cable car experience, and that your driver was able to suggest a good alternative and get you safely back to Munich in difficult weather. Thank you again for your honest review.
Very disappointing. The cost was really for a driver for the day. The driver's English was minimal, the bus to the top of Eagle's Nest was not included, we needed to book that separate and there was no guided tour - you are on your own at both the Eagles Nest and Hallstatt. Hallstatt is a small town where the driver dropped us off and pointed in a direction for us to find the town or something - we had no idea what we were looking for or where. We found a small street with junk souveniers and then called our driver to come find us. Not recommended. Regarding the Eagles Nest which we really were looking forward to, we were so glad we did a lot of YouTube videos ahead of time or we would have had no idea what to expect since there was no guide our tour.
Dear customer, Thank you for sharing your comments about your Private Day Trip from Munich to Eagle’s Nest and Hallstatt. We’re truly sorry that the experience did not fully meet your expectations. Please allow us to clarify: this excursion is indeed a private day trip, but it is structured as a sightseeing journey with an English-speaking driver, not a guided walking tour. The driver’s role is to provide safe, reliable transport, general information, and coordination throughout the day — while the visits themselves (Eagle’s Nest and Hallstatt) are self-guided. At Eagle’s Nest, all visitors must use the official local shuttle buses operated by the site authorities to reach the top — private vehicles are not allowed on that mountain road. The shuttle tickets are purchased directly on-site by each visitor, as they are managed separately from all private tour services. Regarding Hallstatt, you are absolutely right — it is a car-free village, and all vehicles must park in designated lots outside the center. Our driver drops guests at the closest authorized point and provides directions toward the lakefront area. From there, guests can enjoy exploring the picturesque streets, viewpoints, and cafés on foot. This itinerary is designed to provide comfortable private travel between stunning alpine destinations, allowing guests to explore independently. Thank you again for your feedback. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards, The Europe Journey Team
Wonderful experience, Daniel was great! Great communication, right in time, clean and comfortable car!
Dear Jennifer. We’re delighted to hear you had a wonderful experience and that Daniel made your trip so enjoyable. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again soon!
We did this tour on a rainy day and still had an absolutely fantastic time! While we didn’t get the sweeping views from Eagle’s Nest due to the clouds and fog, the experience was still very worthwhile. The ride up was atmospheric, and Tomas did a great job bringing the history to life—very informative without being overwhelming. The real surprise hit was the salt mine detour. It was so much fun! Between the miner slides, the little underground train, and the boat ride across the salt lake, it felt like a mini adventure. Plus, it was the perfect indoor activity for a rainy day. Everything ran smoothly and on time, and Tomas kept the energy up even with the gray skies. Highly recommend this tour—rain or shine, it’s a great way to spend the day learning something new and having fun along the way!

It sounds like Tomas made the experience special by bringing the history to life and keeping the day engaging, and we’re glad the salt mine adventure was a highlight—those slides and the little boat ride really do make it feel like a hidden gem! We couldn’t agree more that rain or shine, this tour has a lot to offer, and it’s great to know everything ran smoothly and left you with fun memories. Thank you for the high recommendation!
