Itinerary
Begin outside one of the most iconic Jewish landmarks in Amsterdam. Learn about the Sephardic Jews who found refuge here in the 1600s and the ongoing importance of this still-active synagogue.
Pass the complex of four historic synagogues that now make up the Jewish Historical Museum.
Then, visit the poignant Holocaust Names Monument where over 100,000 names are inscribed—each a life remembered.
Stand at the site of the 1941 February Strike, where ordinary citizens defied Nazi terror. Hear the story of this rare and heroic act of resistance in Western Europe during WWII.
View the church whose bells Anne Frank wrote about, and stand near the entrance to the Secret Annex. While we don’t go inside, you’ll hear the deeper context of her diary, her neighborhood, and her legacy.
We conclude outside the Anne Frank House. Your guide shares how Anne’s family went into hiding, and how their story was preserved. Want to go inside? Tickets are only available if booked at least 7 weeks in advance. If you book early enough, we’ll do our best to secure your entrance tickets for you. Otherwise, we’ll provide tips or help you experience the story in other meaningful ways.
Take a break with a drink and a typical Dutch snack, included in your tour. A moment to reflect, ask questions, and connect over the stories you’ve heard.

We offer walking pickups from hotels within a 1-mile (1.6 km) radius of the tour starting point. Staying a bit further? No problem—like true locals, we’re happy to hop on a tram or metro with you. You can simply tap your contactless debit or credit card to check in and out. Most Visa and Mastercard cards work smoothly in Amsterdam public transport. American Express is not accepted on trams or metros—so bring a Visa or Mastercard just in case.

This was a great tour! Kees was knowledgeable and his anecdotes were interesting - personal family history and perspective. It is a lot of walking! The holocaust memorial was quite moving and beautiful- we ended at the Anne Frank house which was sad but put a personal view on the Experience of Dutch Jews during WW2. Kees was able to share lots of info without burying us in dates! This tour is highly recommended though it was expensive.

This tour is very over-priced. We did not realize until we took tours booked with other companies which were more detailed, enjoyable and so much less expensive. The company that Viator outsources this tour to does not follow the Viator itinerary, so if these are the stops you want to see, I suggest bringing a copy with you. But even at half the price, it is not worth the money.

So, there’s a couple of different ways one might go about exploring Amsterdam with “Anne Frank” in mind. My personal opinion, the worst way to do this is to be late in ordering a ticket to the Anne Frank House and just decide to go snap a picture of the building facade for your social media “proof of attendance”. Even if you have a ticket and you rush through the museum just to get a look at the diary itself before picking up an “Anne Frank Activity Book” in the gift shop, I imagine the experience is somewhat disingenuous. My suggestion is to either read the diary (perhaps again) before showing up and/or booking this tour. The tour allowed for a much greater context of the plight of the Jewish people, the Dutch in occupied Germany, and the Frank family, which truly seem necessary for one to fully appreciate the dire nature everyone found themselves in during the early 1940s. The tour goes through early anti-Semitic sentiment and class division within Amsterdam. You’ll explore key areas of the city including monuments to the February Strike, parks including memorials to the Auschwitz prisoners, and a stunning walk through the National Holocaust Name Monument. Our favorite part of the tour was not the elaborate history of the Jewish deportation’s office made out of the Dutch Theater or even the further explanation of the Frank family and their arrival and life in the Netherlands. Our favorite part of the tour was being able to hear stories of the Helpers, not just for the Franks, but for the resistance as a whole. If you are unable to go inside the Anne Frank House, I’d recommend this tour (as tickets weren’t included at the time we booked this tour). But I ESPECIALLY recommend you do this tour before going in to the Anne Frank House if you have tickets. The context will be appreciated.
