Positano is a picturesque and charming town located near Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, and Ravello on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Famous for its magnificent cliffside views, Positano has been featured in major motion pictures like “Only You” (1994) and “Under the Tuscan Sun” (2003). However, the beauty does not just lie in the spectacular scenery along the Mediterranean Sea, but also within the people you meet in the town. There is a sense of warmth in the narrow streets that are adorned with lemons, bougainvillea flowers and local artistry. The town is small enough to walk everywhere, and there is little need for transportation. Additionally, the town is very casual – from the small cafes to the cute shops. lla Rufolo is the jewel in the crown of the immense historical and architectonic heritage of Ravello. This monumental complex bears the name of the family which built it. In its heyday, in the 13th century, it numbered “more rooms than there are days in the year”. This extraordinary heritage has been partially eroded by the effects of time and negligence, but much has been retrieved, with new features being added in more recent times, starting from the invaluable efforts of the Scottish entrepreneur Francis Nevile Reid, owner of the Villa at the turn of the twentieth century. Over ten centuries the original core, a perfect synthesis of Arabic, Sicilian and Norman architecture, has accumulated new features, from the rather cumbersome 18th century cloister to the Romantic nineteenth century gardens, up until our own times, being currently used by the Fondazione Ravello, the Ravello Festival a
e Villa’s gardens are breathtakingly beautiful and contain a wealth “of the most beautiful imaginable flowers”. They were largely redesigned at the start of the 20th century, with the valuable input of the English gardener Vita Sackville-West. They are considered among the most important examples of the English landscape and botany culture in the South of Europe. As a result of the strong influence of classical literature and the reinterpretation of the Roman villa, numerous impressive decorative elements from all over the world were placed in the gardens, such as fountains, nymphaea, statues, small temples and pavilions. Some of them often hosted gatherings of the prestigious Bloomsbury Group, which chose Villa Cimbrone as a meeting place and source of inspiration.

We had such a good time on our tour from Naples to Positano that we booked Visit Amalfi Coast for a day tour along the Amalfi coast and return to Naples. Once again Mario organised a fantastic day, and had us in Naploli port perfectly timed to join our ferry. Our driver Marco ( Mario) was a joy to spend the day with, stopping for photos or information along the way. He organised a lunch reservation with “panoramic view” , a wonderful experience, and free time in Ravello was a treat. A fantastic local company & highly recommended!

We were traveling as a group of 2 couples from Canada. We booked a private day tour of the Amalfi coast starting in a suburb of Naples. The management of the company went above expectations to communicate with us to confirm the plans. The driver was prompt and so very kind and courteous. We were so impressed with his skill and knowledge of the area. The ride was very comfortable and the vehicle exceeded our expectations in every way. 10/10 experience! I went with my dad on a quick five day father-daughter trip and this was perfect to see anything we hadn't seen before or hit the big stops we wanted to see again. They have an outline but will customize it completely to what you want. We ended up doing Positano, Ravella, and Pompeii to skip the Amalfi crowd and it was the best experience of our trip! Importantly, the company was very accomodating and picked us up at our hotel in Sorrento and dropped us off with our luggage at our hotel in Naples at no additional cost. So if you're thinking about using this as a combined tour + transfer to your stay in another town they will work with you! We had Diego who was super friendly, helpful, a great conversationalist, and an overall exceptionally nice person. You're lucky if you get him!! We will absolutely be recommending this tour to anyone we know visiting the amalfi coast.
