Itinerary
Your guide will pick you up at the agreed starting point in Trieste - hotel, cruise terminal, train station etc. (please contact us after the booking so the appropriate arrangements can be made).
Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

We loved our guide, who is originally from Slovenia, and the driver! Great information en route, and very kind to me with limited mobility due to knee injury. Be aware of fast paced walking in cave, often uphill. Bring a jacket for cave, but chill air was so welcome in contrast to outdoor heat wave! Recommend this combined tour, especially because of our Guide!
Slovenia is beautiful. Enjoyed the cave experience - bring a jacket. The castle tour was also enjoyable. Hands down a beautiful country.
Castle and caves are really amazing; plus I love the scenery driving to Slovenia ; it is so green and beautiful . We enjoyed our tour.
Since instructions for pickup were for specific time , should have been made aware there were pickups along the way .. thought it was a smaller group
Once in a lifetime experience. The castle very unique in every aspect. The caves were incredible especially the mini train ride inside to get you to the center of the cave.
We had a great tour thanks to Stephan. The sights were amazing and he also took good care of us. A small group and lots of information but friendly, polite and not rushed. He is a proud Slovenian and enjoyed showing off his beautiful country. We especially enjoyed the castle and the ride there.
Thank you, Matjaź Levac (“Matais with glasses” 😁), for such an amazing day. Your local knowledge and commentary during the drive to and from the castle and cave were both informative and entertaining. The castle and cave were incredible to see, and we’d definitely recommend this tour as a fantastic way to spend the day. We had booked six shore excursions with various companies. The communication from Koper Trips via text and WhatsApp messages was extremely helpful – the best communication out of all the other providers.
This was a great half-day trip, with all entry tickets included which made everything run smoothly. The meeting point was easy to find and we were taken through some lovely countryside where we learner about Trieste's multicultural history. Our guide was very kind, engaging and well-organised. At Predjama Castle we were given a helpful audio guide - it was wonderful walking through the castle and cave. The highlight was the Postojna cave tour, where we took a train and walked through to see the formations up close. Bring a jacket as it is usually much cooler in the castle and caves than outside (Postojna has a constant temperature of about 10 degrees) but it is a wonderful experience.
The driver Mattjas (wearing glasses) was a great driver and tour guide—explaining points-of-interest and Slovenian cultural information along the way. The castle was very interesting. The cave tour—via train and walking—was an unforgettable experience.
It was a very nice experience and we appreciated the punctuality, the professionalism of Stefan, the guide who accompanied us from Trieste to the Park and then brought us back to Trieste; very good also the guide who welcomed us to the Postojna cave and accompanied us for the entire tour.
