What sets Predjama Castle apart is its extraordinary location, built into the mouth of a large cave on a towering cliff. The castle's history dates back to the 13th century when a small fortress was constructed on the site. However, the castle, as it stands today, is mainly the result of renovations and expansions carried out in the 16th century. The castle has a rich and intriguing history, filled with legends and tales of knights, sieges, and hidden passages. The architecture of Predjama Castle is a captivating blend of Renaissance and Gothic styles. Exploring Predjama Castle allows visitors to immerse themselves in the medieval atmosphere, walk through its ancient corridors, and imagine the lives of its past inhabitants.

Driver does not go in cave or castle with you! He was very nice and told us: some stuff along drive. We expected a tour of cave and castle
What a wonderful experience! Dave is a great tour guide. On the way out of Trieste, he told us about the city, the culture and the history/relationship of Italy and Slovenia. He adjusted our route to minimize the drive time to Postojna, hence the name of his company D-tour (LOL). The tour of the Postojna cavern was fantastic. A 10 minute train ride down to the bottom followed by an hour guided tour and a train ride back up. Everything was well organized and tourist friendly. This cavern is a must see. Next stop was the Predjama Castle. Dave helped us setup our phones so we could take the self guided tour without paying for the rental audio devices. A nice lunch onsite and the drive back to our hotel in Trieste. A perfect day. Pickup and drop off were on time as planned. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather that is cooler than Trieste and the cool cavern temp. Shorts and T-shirt were a little chilly. A suggestion would be to add an audio device or speaker so that the passengers in the back can hear your dialog as we were traveling.
Bring layers. Cave is very cold. Lot of strenuous walking uphill inside the cave Castle is very interesting.
This is a great excursion! The beauty of Slovenia is awe striking! The tour is paced very well! Our guide David was epic he was so patient and went above and beyond for the other travelers with us! It was challenging to say the least but he handled so professionally! Highly recommend this tour!!
The cave was absolutely worth a visit. There is a 10 minute small train ride into the cave. I was mesmerized by the cave’s beauty. We walked ALOT inside the cave. It was paved but a good bit of walking was steep. There is a post office inside the cave so you can send a postcard home from underground. We then visited the palace built inside the cave. Very unusual and interesting. Ernie was a great guide. Very patient with us. He provided us with a lot of history and information about his home country.
We did this on a cruise port stop in Trieste Italy! It was perfect to see a bit of Slovenia! The cave was really cool biggest I have ever seen compared to Carlsbad Caverns and some others! The medieval castle was not to be missed it is like no other castle I have ever seen so interesting how it is built into a cave!
Wonderful half day trip to the famous castle situated on a cliff and the cave. David was very nice and made our trip so memorable! Thank you so much!! Would love to take another tour to different places in Slovenia next time.
Travelers should know that it is a level activity. They need to be able to do steep stairs and walk long distances.
Very good excursion with castle and caves. Driver David was very good. Castle done first to avoid crowds. Then to caves where we had 45 min to eat before entering the caves at 11:45. First 20 min by train and then 1.5 hours walking through the caves (no stairs). A very large group with English speaking guide. Make sure you're a little bit ahead. Then again by train 20 min. We were promptly at the agreed time of 14:30 again in Triest for Hotel Savoia Excelsior (opposite cruise terminal).
Title led us to believe it was a private tour, it was not. When we returned I read the description again, at the very bottom it says limited to 7, there were 8 on our trip. We were never offered the bottled water. Communication with pick up was good. Guide was personable.
