Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

It is a wonderful day, lots to see. There is lots of walking in the caves, up hills and down but not too strenuous. The castle through is built into the side of a cliff so lots of steps. Mia was a wonderful guide for the day.
Beautiful, but lots of stairs, some very steep. The portion of Slovenia we saw was gorgeous. Will plan on returning.
I had an absolutely unforgettable experience visiting Postojna Cave in Slovenia. The cave itself is breathtaking, with massive stalactites and hidden chambers. The highlight was definitely the train tour—such a front-row seat to the cave’s magic. We did book a private small group tour, but unfortunately, it ended up being a large bus with a lot of cruise passengers, which was a bit disappointing. Still, the cave itself and the guide were phenomenal—it’s a must-see in Slovenia!
It is worth it. You visit two spectacular sites with enough time to see everything. There is no guide in Spanish, but with an Italian guide and the audio guides in Spanish, it is sufficient to understand what you are visiting.
Good tour, operator was friendly and knowledgeable. Trip to the caves was comfortable and the return was prompt.
What can I say? Postojna Cave was an awesome experience, massive in size and truly spectacular. History of Predjama Castle was interesting. Tour hostess and driver were great
Mia our guide was wonderful. We enjoyed the small group. The cave had alot of walking and steep in some places. Be prepared for that.
We were lucky to get there early and missed the crowd. It is worth a visit. A must do. The train took us part of the way and the other part is a walking tour. The tour guide is amazing, not rushing and making sure there is time for the slower people (like us) to catch up. The cave is well lite and beautiful, off course with some imagination along your walk. She provided the history at each stop. She make sure we are safe as there is no stairs. We had a great time. A trip you would not want to missed. Highly recommended. P.s. bring a spring jacket. The temp remains at 10 degrees c.
The caves are spectacular. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Slovenia is beautiful. So clean and pristine and green!

We were met right by our cruise port in Trieste, Italy and taken by bus on a scenic ride to Slovenia to see The Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle. The caves were breathtaking! First, we embarked on a train ride and then walked through passages, showcasing gorgeous natural formations of stalagmites and stalactites. The castle is a medieval fortress built into a mountain cliff. With its amazing architecture, it is hard to tell where the cave and castle combine. This trip offers a unique experience and is a must do!
