The visit to this great winery is a highly recommended experience. Very didactic the audio guide. Tasting in a beautiful courtyard and simple and precise explanations. Special mention to Jose Machado for his professionalism and kindness.
Welcoming unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. Although we booked online, we received few explanations when the audio guide was handed over, which made the tour a bit impersonal. Too bad!
A great place to visit and a must while in Porto. We had a walk around the cellars and then got the chance to taste three ports. Highly recommended.
Complete waste of money to guide with Viator. I paid over $125.00 for two tickets to Taylor’s Port Wine Cellar through Viator. The description said it was a “group experience” and I received a personal text about 2 1/2 weeks prior to the visit asking about my knowledge of wine and favorites “so we can make the experience better” and implying that they would customize the tastings to our preferences. However, when we arrived, all we got was an audio tour from a device with no instructions. There was no guide and the front desk couldn’t even scan our tickets so had to manually write the code on a piece of paper. As a result, we were left to just figure out the audioguide ourselves. Later, I found out that we could have bought the same audioguide self paced tour directly through Taylor’s for $25.00/ticket. Very, very disappointed. Highly NOT recommended. The winery itself is beautiful and the ports are great. Just don’t book through Viator.
Dear Bill, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your visit to Taylor’s Port Wine Cellar did not fully meet your expectations. We would like to clarify that the Taylor’s Essentials option you booked is an audio-guided visit, while only the Private Guided Tour includes a live guide. Your booking was confirmed for 2:00 pm, and since arrival was at 3:00 pm (beyond the 15-minute tolerance), the ticket scanner could not validate your reservation, which is why the staff assisted you manually. Bookings via Viator include additional services such as secure international payment and customer support, which explains the price difference compared to direct winery tickets. Kind regards,
Guide was helpful in getting us through the crowd directly to the tasting room. Interesting interactive displays.
The guided tour begins with 15 minutes in the museum. Attractive and playful. Then guided tour with Carla who speaks French very well. We understood everything and it was really interesting. We learned lots of things. Then tasting. We took the premium and excellence formula and we shared. We recommend.
Interesting visit in French (in particular), interactive museum with explanations in Portuguese and English, tasting of 2 or 3 ports depending on your reservation (19€ for 2 ports - a white and a tawny - which was enough for us!). The children have a glass of orange juice, for a visit for €9.
Bad welcome from the guide, authoritarian and dispassionate. Groups overlap! What a disappointment and the tasting is limited to young, uninteresting wines. It's a shame but there must be better cellars... which the guide himself confirmed!
Dear Travellers, Good Day. Please check who was your supplier and send your complaints to the right address. You didn't book our "Calem Cellar: Visit And Wine Tasting Tour" and our company (Magelline) didn't provide you with any services. Of course, we organise visit and tasting tours at the Calem cellar and our guests mostly like our services. We wish you a wonderful day. Kind regards, Magelline Team
Several people from Porto recommended this winery to us to visit and they were not wrong. The visit is perfectly organized, very professional, with modern projections. I want to highlight the excellent explanations of Nataly, our guide. As for the types of tickets, we were undoubtedly right by choosing the Exclusive. It is €7 more expensive than the normal one, but it gives you the option of having 3 tasting glasses (instead of 2) and of much higher quality. I strongly recommend it.
When I decided to visit Porto and learn more about the wine produced in Portugal, especially the wines from the Douro Valley, I knew this experience would be perfect for me. Arriving at the Cálem cellars, I was greeted by very professional guides. I was deeply impressed by the sights of the beautiful barrels and the rich history. And of course, I was able to taste the high quality wines that make this region famous. Thank you very much for a great experience!
