Nola Voodoo Walking Tour with High Priestess Guide in New Orleans

Description
The majority of the Voodoo tours in the city are offered by those who are either non-initiates, or those who do not have the lineage to support their understanding and service to the religion. This is the only Voodoo/Vodou tour offered in New Orleans that is lead by a High Priestess of Louisiana Plantation Vodou. Malika/Osheyo Amanzi has additional initiations as an Isefa and Olorisa. Her bloodline can be traced back to the coast of Virgina and the Carolinas, home of the Gullah-Geechee who have their own West African-based religions, as well as Nigeria and Kenya.

The tour guide was knowledgeable and dispelled many myths about voodoo. However, she was a bit ADHD and would jump between thoughts, and so I struggled to keep track of who was who and what they symbolized. Also, my friend on the trip is from Ghana and he disagreed with the tour guide's explanations. She made her explanation sound like the dominant form of spirituality on Africa, when in reality each region/tribe has its own beliefs (of which she was mainly speaking about a Nigerian spiritual system).
We hope you enjoyed your time in New Orleans. I’m glad you noted I made it clear that my information was Nigerian, as that’s where my initiations were held; Ghana, your husband’s homeland, is a completely different country, and as I stated in the tour, West Africans are not one monolithic people, and in any one West African country, there are easily upwards of 50-100+ different languages. I can only share what I know, and make it clear where I learned the information/what country those traditions were born, and I’m glad to hear it sounds like I did that. The tour is also about Louisiana Plantation Vodou/Voodoo, as that’s the tradition in which I am a priestess~ again, not Ghana. I don’t believe the tour was advertised as speaking of Ghanaian tradition as the focal point.
Our guide was wonderful and so very well educated on the history and culture of the area and Voodoo traditions.
Thank you so much! We hope you come back and take some of our other tours!
Malika was one of the best tour guides I have ever had! She has so much fascinating information and dispelled all of the negative connotations Voodoo has. She truly gave us a masterclass and I could have listened to her for hours more! The best!
Thank you so much for the glowing review! We hope you return soon, and take more tours with us. 🥰
10/10!! I did my research to find local tour guides as I’ve just moved back here and am leaning my own history more. I’ve even went back for more! I took the Black AF Ghost Tour with Rhodesia was SO amazing. She was honest, intelligent, vulnerable, funny, kind, knowledgeable- a natural tour guide with soul, love and a personal history to the city. I also took the Plantation Vodou Tour with Malika and had another amazing 10/10 day. They attract a wonderful tour group as well that were kind and fun to be with.
Aw, thank you so much, luv! Looking forward to connecting when you come back! 🥰
Very informative and engaging tour with Malika, I highly recommend!
Thank you so much! Come back soon! 🥰
This was an OUTSTANDING tour and VERY informative. Be advised, you will learn some very important history of NOLA, and some of that history is traumatic. Also, this is listed as a walking tour, but it is fairly light and restricted to a fairly small area within the park, and the guide provides times to sit on benches to listen to the stories and histories of the area.
Thank you for the warm review! We hope you come back soon and take another tour with us!
Super interesting tour! 100% would do it again.
