Schloss Neuschwanstein, often known as Germany’s "Cinderella castle," was actually the inspiration for a different Disney story, the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ castle at Disneyland. The entrance fee to the castle is not included (you can pay on the day), but by booking this tour in advance, you’ll receive skip-the-line access to Neuschwanstein so you won’t waste time standing in the ticket queue. The entrance fee to the castle is not included (you can pay on the day), but by booking this tour in advance, you’ll receive skip-the-line access to Neuschwanstein so you won’t waste time standing in the ticket queue. Once inside the enchanting structure, take a tour with a guide, who shares fascinating stories about the reclusive Bavarian king who commissioned a new residence in the 19th century. Thought to be mad, King Ludwig II desired a fantasy castle built in the mountains, an obsessive feat that was still incomplete when he died. Visit the best vantage points for views and photo ops of the castle’s towers, interiors and surrounding scenery such as the lake, gorge and equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle.

Exceptional Guide, Fascinating Stories, Beautiful Neuschwanstein

Charlie was an outstanding guide for our day trip from Munich to Neuschwanstein Castle. His knowledge of Munich, Bavaria, and the Bavarian kings is remarkable, and he has a real talent for turning history into stories that bring the people and places to life. We especially loved the way Charlie explained King Ludwig II and the story behind Neuschwanstein. He even read excerpts and evidence from Ludwig’s diary pages, which gave us a much deeper understanding of Ludwig as a person. All of that context made our tour inside the castle so much more meaningful; for example, the connections between Ludwig and Wagner and how it’s reflected on the castle walls. His storytelling was engaging enough to capture the attention of our 13-year-old daughter—which says a lot! Charlie’s knowledge went far beyond the castle. Throughout the day, he made great connections to Munich and Bavaria, discussing everything from the Autobahn and Oktoberfest to Bavarian culture and history. Whenever he sensed that people were particularly interested in a subject, he went deeper rather than simply sticking to a script. He was also excellent with the logistics of the day. His instructions were clear and thorough, he set expectations perfectly, answered every question, and did a wonderful job balancing the different needs and interests of the entire group and the families traveling together. Thank you, Charlie, for a fantastic and memorable day. We highly recommend him!

Deep insights into Neuschwanstein

Tho.as was our guide for Neuschwanstein, and was so informative and full of deep insights. He gave background of the historical context, Ludwig and Wagner music that were all intertwined. He even covered the opera and stories that became part of the castle decor to help you appreciate more what Ludwig was doing. He also sought deeper questions and meanings behind all we saw and heard and tried to get all to reflect more afterwards. Highly recommend the tour and especially Thomas for this one! The hill climb is a bit strenuous. I do have a heart condition and am a bit out of shape but was able to do it without major issue. Thomas was very cautious with the group and took pauses for historical lessons on the way up the mountain for those of us struggling to catch up to the group. Much appreciated that he stayed concerned for the entire group.

Magnificent

Wow, what an experience. The castle and the views were magnificent. The only downside is the crowds, during peak time it does get very busy. Especially Mary's Bridge, it can take up to 50 minutes to get to it.

Great Day Trip

Reserving a spot was easy. Staff was terrific, start to finish. Thomas did a wonderful job of keeping everyone engaged as well as in time. Be prepared to walk. It is a steep climb to the castle and lots of stairs inside. Overall, a great day trip.
